Tears in a bottle, prayers in a bowl… When you are knee deep in diapers with a teething toddler on your hip—did you know that God sees?
God sees the sleepless nights with a newborn who won’t settle. He sees the moments when you’re sure you have nothing left to give. He knows what you “gave up” in your career to stay home and be a mom—and the struggle to avoid hovering when your child becomes a teen.
The challenge is real. Being a mom can test you—spiritually, emotionally, physically—to the very core of who you are—or who you thought you were.
“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” Psalm 56:8 NLT
Last year I spoke at a media conference in Ghana. On our free day, we traveled two hours into the bush where a small village community had gathered to hear the word of God and talk about ways to apply it to their lives. The mamas with their babies crowded in with the men to listen.
These women lived with no electricity, no indoor plumbing—I hardly knew places like this still existed. They were in the most remote location and yet—God saw them. He sent His word to lift their hearts as they cried over their laundry trough or cradled a croupy baby.
He does the same for you and me. Sends His word, lights the way. The Bible says He keeps track of our tears. He holds them in a bottle, writes them in a book—all the sorrow, all the frustration, all the desperate tears we cry when we’re at the end of ourselves.
Have you ever cried out to God in those desperate, weary moments? Prayers for help, prayers for strength, prayers to make it through another night or face the dawn… God collects those too.
“And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.” Revelation 5:8
Every prayer, every voice lifted to a Holy God is gathered in a golden bowl in heavenly places. Not forgotten, not mislaid—gathered. A sweet fragrance of incense before the throne of God, prayers from trusting hearts soaring up to the One who listens. Who records. Who keeps.
And more importantly, who knows your every need before you even ask! The Bible tells us that “your Father already knows your needs” (Luke 12:30). Whether it’s wisdom for parenting a tween or finances for the home, God knows. He understands.
“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16
And in that knowledge, in that place of knowing that God keeps track—that He knows and He sees the details of our lives—we can come boldly before His throne. We can lay down every pain, every heavy burden, every heartfelt need at His feet and ask for help.
You are not alone in this venture as a mother, as a mom. There’s help when you need it. You only need to ask… Not ashamed because you couldn’t do it on your own, not cringing in fear of accusation that you weren’t enough, will never be enough. He is enough.
“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” Romans 8:31-32
And He is for you, not against you. Just like He sent His word to those mamas in the Ghana village, He sees what you need too. He is ready to send all the help, all the wisdom, all the strength you need for every season of motherhood.
Tears in a bottle, prayers in a bowl… If you are in a desperate situation or simply need wisdom, here’s a prayer you can pray:
Dear God, thank You that You see me. You know every detail of my life, and You are for me and not against me. I ask for Your help. I ask for Your grace and mercy. I ask for Your strength and wisdom. Come, Lord! Refresh me and help me to be the mommy You have called me to be in this season. I love You and I ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.
“I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.” Psalm 139:7-10
