INGREDIENTS for Bread:

  • 1-1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoons alt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons shortening
  • 1 package dry active yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 5 cups flour (about)

INGREDIENTS for Filling:

  • 1 stick melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons cinnamon

TO PREPARE Cinnamon Rolls:
Put yeast, 2 Tablespoons sugar, 1/2 cup warm water into small bowl.  Let stand about 10 minutes.  In a larger bowl (2-1/2 quarts), put all other ingredients, but not all the flour.  Beat well.  Add the yeast mixture and flour enough to make a kneadable dough.  Knead for about 10 minutes.  Put in a warm place to rise – it will double in bulk.  Turn on floured board and roll thin – take a sizeable amount to make first rolls.  A larger amount will be too large to handle.

TO PREPARE Filling:
Spread with melted butter, sugar and cinnamon.  Roll like jelly roll and cut for rolls.  Bake in 375 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.  Remove from pan immediately.  (Always put dough in greased pan).
