You Don’t Need a New Life to Be Sent By God

What if we truly believed that everything was sacred? How would we live?

Many of us wonder whether we are where we are supposed to be or whether we are doing enough for God’s kingdom. We might hear stories about missionaries, influencers, or people in history and be inspired to chase a seemingly bigger, better ministry.

Yet, what if all of it is ministry? Our laundry and our child rearing, our grocery shopping and our yard work, our white or blue collar job? Maybe instead of looking for a new life, we need to look at our life in a new way.

When we compartmentalize our faith, we prevent ourselves from being effective for the kingdom right where God has placed us. The life we are already living is our life of ministry. It is sacred. It is the place that God intends to work.

Scripture speaks most to how we serve God, rather than where. It talks about the posture of our heart, not the location of our ministry.

If we truly believe the words of 1 Corinthians 10:31, which declare, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God,” then we need to live like it. We need to view our everyday activities as divine assignments. We need our faith to be evident in our common lives.

After all, if we can’t give our all where God has placed us now, how can we expect Him to move us into other opportunities? As Luke 16:10 puts it, “One who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much.”

So, how do we stop separating our faith from the rest of our lives? Here are a few steps to take to help.

A New Perspective

Try looking at your impact on God’s kingdom, not based on current visibility, but on potential impact. You could be a mother of one child, and then your child grows up to preach to thousands or save numerous lives. You don’t know, and you aren’t in control of that. However, if you have a child, God is asking you to raise them for His glory. This same example can apply to many jobs or areas of your life that seem small and unimportant.

A Study on Sovereignty

Take some time to read scripture about how God used people in ordinary ways that led to glorious results. Read a book on the sovereignty of God or look up scriptures that highlight His providence.

Memorize Scripture

Find verses about obedience and honoring God in your daily life. Study and memorize them. Place them where you can see them in places where you do tasks that normally make you feel insignificant.

Practice Contentment

Use gratitude to maintain satisfaction with your life. Thank God for where He has placed you. Your eyes will begin to see all the opportunities God has given you.

A life of faith is not something you clock in for. It is a lifestyle. We breathe faith in and out. Stop waiting for your life to change before you feel on a mission for the Lord. Look at where you are and realize that is your mission.
