His Presence is My Weapon

My to-do list today includes…

1. Surf & workout

2. Meet with my manager

3. Prepping to host family dinner

4. Working on a creative post for my Channel Islands Signature Surfboards

…and on and on it goes.

In fact, my to-do list isn’t just mine any more, it’s Tobias’ and Wesley’s too. So add, (#5) helping Tobias learn the ABCs and (#6) changing about eight of Wesley’s diapers, and (#7) keeping the boys fed and hydrated.

Some days it can be flat out overwhelming just looking at “The List.”

One thing I’m learning in this new season of life is the importance of sleep and rest. One of the best weapons to combat my feelings of being overwhelmed or anxious is rest. For starters, I find it helpful to set my phone down and take a break from it.

Some of you may be thinking, “I don’t have time to rest,” but I want to assure you that you do. Rest doesn’t have to be laying down or stopping all activity because rest can be accomplished internally, even when you’re physically moving throughout your day.

Rest can be a slowing down of your mind, creating an intentional pause to thank God for all that He has for you and asking Him to help you get through the day. It takes consistency and practice quieting yourself and being aware of God’s goodness. It can be as simple as praying and thanking Him for the day. Or slowing down your mind can mean taking a brief pause to think about your heavenly father.

Whether you’re running a physical race or struggling with a schedule that feels never ending, rest can be your weapon.

Let’s pray:

God, take my weary and burdensome soul and replace it with your rest. Forgive me for any of my negativity and anxiety and help me to rest in you and your peace. Free me of stress, worry, and frustration. Let me rest in you. — Amen

I encourage you today to find some time to meditate and dwell on God, His word, and His promises for you.

My overcoming strategy for today is: His Presence is My Weapon. Rest is more than a nice feeling. Rest can help you thrive in all that you have going on.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).
