Give Hope | Education | Food | Water | I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. –John 10:10b NIV

Globally, 748 million people do not have access to clean water.

Fetching water can take up to four hours each day for many children, robbing them of the chance to attend school.

About every 90 seconds, a child under 5 dies as a result of diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation and unsafe hygiene practices.

just add water

As the largest nongovernmental provider of clean water in the developing world, World Vision reaches one new person with clean water every 30 seconds. Motivated by God’s love, they believe everyone deserves clean water—it’s why they’re committed to a goal of providing universal access to clean water by 2030.

Watch how nine-year-old Dorcas’ life was changed when World Vision brought clean water to her village in Zambia.

Here’s how World Vision provides clean water:

  1. Sanitation and hygiene: World Vision partners with community members to build latrines and train people in good hygiene and sanitation habits, like washing hands and handling water safely to prevent the spread of disease.
  2. Water committees: Volunteer committees form to operate and maintain wells and other water points, manage water systems and promote safe hygiene and sanitation practices.
  3. Wells and other water points: Community members work with World Vision to prepare for the construction of their water sources, building fences to keep animals out and smoothing terrain for big equipment to come and drill, if needed.
  4. Sustainability and maintenance: After the water point is constructed, volunteer committees help collect small fees to pay for operation, maintenance and repair.
