- Review from Rambles of a SAHM by Fitzysmom on 9/20/2016
This new series by Lynette Eason just continues to get better. I liked the first book, Always Watching, but I REALLY liked Without Warning. This time around the action focuses on Katie Singleton who is one of the partners in the Elite Guardians Protection Agency. The case that is the focus of the novel came about by an interesting twist of fate. Katie teaches a self-defense class a couple of times a week at the local gym. One of her students is Riley Matthews.
Riley's parents were killed in a tragic accident several years ago and she is now being raised by her beloved uncle Daniel Matthews. Daniel is a successful restaurant owner and pilot. He's also quiet wealthy. The twist of fate happens when Katie sees that there is a crime scene at Daniel's restaurant and she stops to see if Katie and Daniel are okay.
What ensues after that pivotal stop makes for some very heart-pumping suspense. Lynette Eason's thrillers are the best sort. She leaves bread crumb trails along the way that are hardly recognizable with the first reading. If you go back and look at the story a second time you will see the brilliance of the hidden yet visible clues along the trail.
If you've not yet read a book by Lynette Eason this series is a good place to start. We have read some of her past novels in our book club and had a blast discussing how clever the plots are. And by the way, the romance that develops between Katie and Daniel is nice and spicy as well. I heartily recommend this book to all lovers of romantic suspense.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
- GOD is our Warning by Carol on 9/9/2016
Well this novel grabs you right from the beginning - how do you like a dead body? Then there is a fire of the restaurant at the same time of the same persons business. This person is the friend of Katie - Elite Guardian Protection Agency - Daniel and his niece are friends of hers - she is his niece's self defense teacher - when Katie saw the police - she checked in on them and got involved with what was going on. She and Daniel wanted to know who wanted to get rid of Daniel and why, and until that happened she was going to protect the both of them. This is a clean mystery and that is the way I like it - that is why I love this author - she can give you a serious mystery and believe you me - that this is one great mystery - it is clean. There is a lot of tense action and romance thrown in. This is one novel you will regret if you do not buy. She is one gifted writer. I cannot wait to see what else she has.
- A Target on His Back by Doreen on 8/29/2016
This is the second book in the Elite Guardians Series, but can be read as a stand alone novel, as each one wrapped up the main storyline by the end of the book. The Elite Guardians are all strong women who have different abilities and areas of expertise who are hired to protect those who need a little extra help. In this case, a teenager hires the Elite Guardians to protect her Uncle Daniel when he is framed for murder and one of his restaurants is torched, both on the same evening. The clues and the "red herrings" keep you guessing as to who hates Daniel so much that they would try to destroy his business, and even take his life. Katie, and her friends, do everything they can to expose the killer or killers before he (or she?) destroys Daniel, while Katie and Daniel also balance a growing attraction for each other. I enjoyed catching up a little bit with characters from the first book and getting to know Daniel and Riley, his neice. I did some guessing as to the guilty one (or ones?) and was partially right, but was never too sure until the end. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair review. I look forward to the third book in this series, hopefully coming out in the spring.
- Great Suspense, Surprising Twists by Seasons of Opportunities on 8/29/2016
Daniel, ex-marine, owner of several restaurants, and guardian of his niece - whose parents were killed in an accident is seemingly living the sweet life. He lives in a neighborhood of pilots wit an airstrip in his back yard and a plane in his hanger. If he wanted to, he could very well just set back and take it easy, but instead Daniel enjoys being actively involved in his business management.
Then the unlikely hits, a body is found in the basement of his restaurant. One that totally casts suspicion his way, until one of his other restaurants burns down. Not coming up with any personal enemies makes it even more difficult to figure out who might be behind the attacks.
His niece Riley's self-defense instructor is also part of a team of bodyguards. They quickly become involved as the situation becomes extremely precarious for both Daniel and his niece. How long will it take to figure out who is behind this mess, what do they want, and how many people will be hurt in the process?
Lynette will keep you on the edge of your seat as you read through this suspenseful, thrilling mystery. You may think you have it figured out, but I guarantee you a few unexpected twists towards the end that will surprise you and possibly even shock you! This book was the second in the series, but I was able to read it as a stand alone without any problems. I finished in record time, and was extremely disappointed when I did have to put it down. I am eager to read book one, as well as, the next one in the series - coming out Feb 2017.
I was blessed with this book courtesy of Revell Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion.
- Watch Your Back! by Becky on 8/29/2016
Daniel Matthews seems to have it all, the owner of some highly successful restaurants, lots of material wealth, a mom and niece who love him. Everything is going well until the night the body of his former employee is found hanging in his restaurant's basement. Shortly afterward, on that same night, his other restaurant is set on fire. Soon it becomes apparent that Daniel himself is the target of whoever is doing these horrible things. In addition, the target might extend to his niece Riley, too.
So begins a deadly game of cat and mouse. Katie Singleton of the Elite Guardians Protection Agency is brought in as a bodyguard for Daniel and Riley. Despite Katie and her crack team, more attacks take place, and the person behind it all remains a mystery. While facing life and death situations together, Katie and Daniel begin to learn a lot about each other. They discover they have a lot in common, and cautiously hope that if they survive, the two of them might spend even more time together.
This fast-moving book will grab your attention from the first page, and keep you wondering who is behind it all. Daniel faces a variety of attacks which range from bullets, to bombs, and even a backhoe. Additionally, Daniel's anger at God because of his brother and sister-in-law's deaths add a lot of depth and reality to his character. Riley's strong faith in spite of her parent's deaths, along with maturity and spunkiness, make her very likable. The reader will find themselves hoping Riley will survive all of these attacks unharmed. Katie has skeletons of her own in her closet. Many will find common ground with her as she blames herself for her brother's death.
I really enjoyed this intense story. This is book two in the Elite Guardians series, but this story stands on its own. The author does a great job of keeping the reader in suspense as Daniel attempts to find out who is behind all the attacks--before it is too late. I had a hard time putting it down, and give it 5 plus stars. Without Warning is highly recommend to anyone who enjoys fast-paced thrillers written from a Christian viewpoint.

- Page Turner! by Claudia on 8/25/2016
Book two of the Elite Guardians series far outshines book one. Without Warning is Lynette Eason at her best. She has created a believable story with endearing characters. There are several suspects with motivations to commit the crime, and some come under suspicion again even after having been found unlikely candidates. Eason leads you to the solution of the mystery, but then provides a surprising twist that the reader won’t have seen coming.
Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection agency, is a strong, self-confident woman. Daniel Matthews, restaurateur and client of the agency, is a former Marine who appreciates those qualities in a woman. Being a Marine, Matthews is more than capable of taking care of himself, but his niece insists he hires the Elite Guardians. After all she has already lost her mom and dad; she cannot allow anything to happen to her uncle. No one is quite sure why Daniel Matthews is being targeted by a killer and arsonist, and no one is sure when and how that person will strike again. Singleton and Matthews have the skills necessary to deal with the situation, but it is their vulnerabilities that create a bond between them.
While Eason refers back to characters and events from book one in this series, Always Watching, it is not necessary to have read the first book in order to understand and enjoy the second. Each book in the series has as its main character one of the partners of the Elite Guardians. It would appear that the author is designing them to be read in sequence or as a stand-alone book. Something I always appreciate.
I thank Revell Publishing and the Christian Blog Alliance for providing Without Warning for my honest opinion. I received no monetary compensation for providing this review.
- awesome read! by Mark on 8/22/2016
I have been hooked on Lynette's books since the first one I read by her. Although they tend to be written for women more than men, I have enjoyed every book I have read by her.
This series bugs me a bit, as the idea of female body guards guarding men just seems......weird.....but once I put that aside, I have been able to really enjoy this book and the one it follows.
Without Warning brings back some of the same characters from the first book, and moves Katie Singleton to being one of the main characters. I liked her character a lot, as well as Daniel.....who was portrayed as needing a bodyguard without making him look weak or helpless.
The book is packed with nonstop suspense and action. A lot happens in this book, and it had me guessing to who the guilty party was, although I was proud of myself to figure out a motive before it was disclosed.
The romantic aspect was done well and wasn't overly gushy as some authors do. I read the book in one evening, and couldn't put it down until I finished it..... it is that good.
This is the second book in the Elite Guardian Series, and though I'd recommend reading them in order, it isn't necessary to do so.
I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
- Without Warning is Just the Beginning by Robin on 8/18/2016
Book Summary: Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business. Daniel might be concerned, but he's not convinced that a bodyguard--and a female one at that--is necessary. A new attack and his niece's urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who's behind the intimidation and threats--before a would-be killer strikes again. Witty dialogue and a simmering attraction will have readers flying through this tension-laced thriller. Eason exercises complete control of her readers' emotions as they race through the pages to discover the truth.
Review: Great fast paced story. A great follow up to Always Watching and yet a good stand alone book. It was a thrilling mystery and with some intense moments. While the who done it was easy to solve the ‘why’ was the biggest mystery for me. Even the final surprise was something I expected. But, Ms. Eason taught me in her last series to expect the unexpected!! Her books hit to the quick and make turning pages the only way to make my heart stop pounding!! I loved Daniel, he was a great hero. He needed protecting and yet not really. He was able to take care of himself and yet when the assault comes from a distance no one can defend themselves. Definitely a memorable story!

This is book number 2 in the Elite Guardian series, and having read the first one and enjoying it so much I was soooo excited to jump into this one. I immediately felt the pull of the story and the action and the suspense was perfect, and so real. In one of the action scenes it felt so real I felt like I was a spectator at the actual event. Lynette Eason really did do a AMAZING job in this book and I thought it was even better than the first, I am very very much looking forward to number 3 in this series.
The characters were wonderful. I loved how all of them really just worked in harmony together and I loved how the romance between the 2 main characters didn't steal the show, but instead just added another layer of depth to it. The only think that I felt a little lacking was character description, I may have missed it but I still have no idea what Daniel looks like but that was easy to look over because it was just packed with other amazing story lines that came together in an amazing way.
I definitely recommend this book to all of the suspense and action book lovers, and I am so glad to add this to my collection of books.
I received this book for free from Revell in exchange for my honest review.

- Perfect Blend of Suspense, Romance, and Faith by Suzie on 8/2/2016
Lynette Eason’s second book in the Elite Guardians series (Without Warning) ranks up with my favorites this year.
The story was fast-paced and had me guessing until the end. Admittedly, I missed the first book in this series. And while I definitely want to go back and read Olivia’s story and (maybe) get some more details about the agency that were briefly skimmed the role to the team and mentioned the members, Without Warning was definitely about the events taking place in Daniel Matthew’s world.
As he and Katie Singleton strive to unravel who is behind the events occurring at Daniel’s restaurants, Katie and her team are committed to protect Daniel and his teenage niece, Riley.
Each of the characters in this book added to the story. I especially enjoyed getting to know Riley and learning about her life—a teenager whose experience with tragedy has made her wise beyond her years but she’s still vulnerable and fearful at times. Eason’s balance of character development, suspense, faith, and romance are the perfect combination.
