Vendetta is the first novel in The Nikki Boyd Files series. The main character is Nikki Boyd and she is a member of the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force. Nikki joined the missing persons force when her sister, Sarah turned up missing ten years ago. Nikki was supposed to be picking up her sister from school and Nikki was late arriving. Sarah was kidnapped and the Angel Abductor left behind a Polaroid of Sarah. Nikki has intensely studied a number of kidnapping cases in order to try and determine who the Angel Abductor is. She has yet to find any trace of Sarah. While on a rock climbing trip with Tyler honoring his late wife, she received an important call from her boss asking her to investigate a missing girl Bridget near them. Bridget was a very active user on social media. She thought she was talking to a young guy but the guy didn’t really exist. Now they are desperately searching for any signs of Bridget.

I would recommend this amazing book to anyone who enjoys reading suspenseful novels. I love how this book was very descriptive in describing the different scenes and the author knew how to make readers want to keep reading and turning the pages in order to discover more about the plot. I also like how the novel included some budding romance between Nikki and Tyler. I can’t wait to see where she takes the two main characters in the next book. I love how the book reminded me of the popular TV Show, Criminal Minds. I liked how the author allowed the characters to explore their faith and their lack of faith and questioning why God allows bad things to happen. I could relate to Nikki when she questioned God on why he allowed Sarah to be taken. I also related to the background story between Tyler and his first wife and how he struggled with losing his unborn child in an accident. Throughout the book, we see both Nikki and Tyler having to deal with their guilt before they can move forward and the healing that can be found. If you’re looking for a new mystery series to read and enjoy, then pick up this series!

We've all heard the advice. Be careful online. Predators abound. Young people should be supervised and particularly alert to imposters. It’s all true.

Somebody should have told the teenage girl in Vendetta, the newest fiction from Lisa Harris.

I was on edge from the beginning as the main character, Nikki, goes rock-climbing on the one-year anniversary of the death of her best friend. Of course, something goes wrong with her equipment, and both the character and the reader are hanging on the edge of the cliff. *biting nails* As she comes down, she receives a call that she’s needed on the job because a girl has gone missing nearby.

Of course, the book isn't ultimately about the abducted girl. It's about Nikki Boyd, the detective on the Tennessee Missing Person Task Force, who searches for her. A Polaroid photo of the missing girl appears at a crime scene, the calling card of the man she believes abducted her own sister ten years earlier. It seems that Nikki has something – or someone – from her past to face.

The Smoky Mountains provide an intriguing backdrop to this hunt through the woods, and Tyler, Nikki’s deceased best friend’s now-widowed husband, provides an interesting, albeit unresolved, romantic conflict. This is the first book in an upcoming series, so I’m sure we’ll see Tyler again.

Revenge – hurting someone who hurt you – is a motive that goes back to Cain and Abel. But it is an enduring motivation, and the author drags it out bit by bit so carefully in Vendetta that I couldn't stop thinking about the story in between my times of reading. You've heard the saying that a book is good when you want to pray for the characters. Oh, yes! Nikki Boyd needs your prayers!

And the moral to the story? Warn your teens to be super-careful online!

Nikki Boyd goes through her life as a Tennessee Missing Person Task Force member, she always has her history in the back of her mind. That history is that Sarah is abducted and no one ever found her body.

People encouraged Nikki not to go in law enforcement because of emotions that tie Nikki to this latest kidnapping. Nikki was shopping instead of picking Sarah up. Nikki soon finds that this latest kidnapper of Bridget, wants Sarah involved in many ways, and wants Nikki to be tied to all of it.

Through the years, the time, the guilt, and everything that goes with this. Nikki never forgave herself and vowed that she would find Sarah’s kidnapper.

So when 16-year-old Bridget goes missing, everything comes flooding back to her, the memories, the guilt, everything.

as well as dealing with this, she was also dealing with the loss of her best friend. On the day Bridget goes missing, Nikki and Tyler, Katie’s widow were celebrating the life of their
/best friend Katie.

Now Katie realizes that through all of this, she is falling in love with Tyler. Something she never expected to happen.

Lisa Harris takes us down all sorts of twists and turns and surprises. Vendetta is a clean read and for that, I was so excited.

This book will give you all the mystery, intrigue, suspense, who dunnits, all while staying true to faithful reading!

I've been looking forward to reading Vendetta for months. I got hooked on Lisa Harris's writing with her Southern Crimes series so I was pretty excited when I heard that she was starting a new series. It so did NOT disappoint! Vendetta is filled with Lisa Harris's trademark danger, romance, and nail-biting suspense.

I had good intentions in being a good girl and finishing the books I was reading before starting Vendetta, I really did. Hah! It was only a matter of hours before I had that lovely dramatic cover open and I was right there with Nikki, desperately trying to figure out the killer before it was too late.

Lisa Harris's newest book is a must read and I am eagerly awaiting book 2 in this thrilling series.

Christian Shelf-Esteem's review of Vendetta by Amanda on 11/25/2015

Vendetta by Lisa Harris possesses a frighteningly plausible scenario of a young teen who has gone missing. Special Agent Nikki Boyd of the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force happened to be in the vicinity of the disappearance with her friend Tyler. They were commemorating the one-year anniversary of his wife’s death when the call was received. Nikki doesn’t hesitate to respond, as 10 years earlier the investigation into the abduction of Nikki’s sister had quickly turned cold, and she knows that time is of the essence. Held captive by a rising sense of urgency and the compelling backstory of this new heroine, I finished this book in one day!

Following a tip, Nikki and Tyler soon find themselves with the daunting task of searching for the missing teen in the expansive wilderness of the Great Smoky Mountains. I was very excited about the author’s choice of setting because I can remember a childhood visit to the park and seeing my first black bear. I enjoyed the park history and folklore the author used to enhance the story.

Once in the park, Nikki quickly assembles a team of volunteers and rangers to aid in the search. As potential leads result in a series of dead ends, memories of her sister’s abduction begin to plagued Nikki. It was at about this point in the book that I recognized Nikki, her faith, and the investigative story gaining depth rapidly. It’s also when readers catch our first real glimpse of romantic tension – a spark with the potential for fireworks in the future.

Possessing depth, fast-paced suspense, and unpredictability – Vendetta earns my highest rating! I can’t wait for Missing (The Nikki Boyd Files #2) set to release July 5, 2016.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I started reading it while on our family vacation, but you know how family vacations are. You think you are going to get so much read, but in the end the fellowship draws you and you can't do both. I have to say though, don't read this book if you are vacationing in the Smokey Mountains! 'Nough said!

Nikki Boyd is an agent on the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force, driven by the fact that her own sister came up missing ten years prior. Nikki has been searching for years, memorizing every detail of the files and each abductor, hoping that one day she will find her sister's abductor. Within just the first few chapters, Nikki is assigned to a new task. A young girl has gone missing and Nikki knows she doesn't have much time. The emotional ties to the case threaten to destroy her. And no one expects what is about to happen next. Could this be her sister's killer? Will she finally have the answers she has searched for?

The story kept a steady fast pace. Lisa has a talent for suspense and mystery. The end kind of threw me a bit, as I didn't expect the twist that came. I did however kind of pin the perpetrator before he was actually revealed, but honestly it could have been a number of characters. I enjoyed the underlying faith theme. It was there, but not overly discussed. At one point however, Nikki and Tyler (her close friend) have a discussion about how the tragedies in their lives affected their faith and how they view God. Both Nikki and Tyler have experienced loss. That loss has developed a bond between them. There are some subtle romantic undertones, but the book is not full of mushy romance, and I like that! I am more for reality, a slow blossoming love, than a rush of feelings and head over heels type stuff.

If you enjoy a good mystery, I am sure you will enjoy this book! I have read several other books Lisa has written and enjoyed them all! This book ends well, but also leaves the doors open for blossoming love and another case. Can't wait to read the next book in the Nikki Boyd Files.

I received this book from Revell in exchange for my honest opinion.

Like a Bad Penny... by Tickmenot on 11/9/2015

One year ago, Nikki's best friend, Katie, died. Today, Nikki along with Katie's husband Tyler, are going to mark this day doing what Katie loved best, enjoying the outdoors. Hopefully, this will help the two of them close the door on the intensive grief they have experienced the last twelve months.

However, their day had just gotten started when Nikki, a member of the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force, gets an emergency call. A sixteen-year-old girl, Bridget, is missing. Since this is Nikki's area of expertise, her boss would like her to meet with Bridget's family as soon as possible.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...

Ten years earlier, Nikki's sister Sarah, disappeared, one of a series of victims abducted by a serial killer the media dubbed, "The Angel Abductor." Her sister was the fifth of six girls that were eventually taken. Despite a herculean effort, no trace of Sarah has ever been found.

Nikki has never given up hope of finding her sister, nor has she ever gotten rid of the guilt of she feels for Sarah's disappearance. This one-time school teacher changed her career, and went to the police academy. She wanted to devote herself to continuing the search for her sister, and to help other people who have found themselves in this same nightmare.

I will fear no evil.

All these years later, the Angel Abductor seems to be back, and to be responsible for Bridget's abduction. Now he is using updated methods, and has been stalking her. This grown man connected with Bridget on social media, and has been chatting with her for a couple of months. Posing as a teenage boy, with fake pictures of himself, he had convinced Bridget he was her best friend, and they should meet.

The few leads they have seem to point to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, as the place Bridget is being held. However, this is an area of thousands of acres of uncharted wilderness. But is this even the correct place, or just another dead end? Time is of the essence because the first forty-eight hours are the most important in cases like this. Will Nikki be able to track this man down and save Bridget? And will she finally get the answers to her sister's abduction?

Vendetta is the first book in the Nikki Boyd Files, stands on its own, and is told from a Christian viewpoint. This is a fast-paced suspenseful novel, that had a surprising twist towards the end, and will keep readers on the edge of their seats. I recommend this 5-star book to those who enjoy thrilling, real-life story lines.

The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of Vendetta through Revell Publishing for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I was not required, or influenced, to give anything but an honest appraisal. Despite my receiving the book free, it has not influenced my judgment.

When you crack the spine of a Lisa Harris book, you immediately begin an exciting journey enveloped in suspense and mystery. Vendetta is no different from her other books in the entertainment arena because it is a good read from the first crack.

As Nikki and her deceased best friend's husband rappel over the edge of a cliff in a wilderness trek meant to take Tyler's memory off the one-year anniversary of his wife's death, Nikki's life is literally hanging by a thread. Their day is interrupted with the message from her supervisor asking her help with a missing person case. Time is of the essence and Nikki is a willing and skilled investigator.

Crumbs of evidence can either be real or faked but follow them they must. Clues lead to the beautiful Smoky Mountain Park which is a wilderness covering a vast area.

As book one in the new Nikki Boyd File series, Vendetta will provide a good read. It is a clean and exciting read with a touch of faith and a touch of budding romance. Good read for teens and adults.

I love to read a good crime drama. And I've come to love the work of Lisa Harris. I've had the pleasure of reading several of her novels and enjoyed each one of them. Unfortunately Vendetta just didn't click with me. It had all of the usual elements that I like, independent and strong lead female, interesting setting, and a heart-pumping situation. In fact it started off really good. But around chapter 5 or 6 it started to become a bit disjointed to me.

Without spoiling the story I can't share specifics but I'm going to say that I think it was the actions of the characters that didn't fit their backgrounds that seemed off. Was it a good story, yes. Will I read the rest of the series, yes. I really do like Lisa Harris' work and that may be the problem. After reading so many of her books I may have set an unfair standard for this one. I think that if I weren't familiar with her work I may have just chalked this one up to not being my cup of tea.

It is my hope that the following books in the series will draw me in and help me to connect with the characters in a better way. There is an excerpt from book two in the back of this book and after reading it I am intrigued to read more. It comes out next summer so I guess we'll just patiently wait and see.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

"...sometimes there truly is nothing you can do to change your circumstances. Sometimes all you can do is hold on for dear life and pray that God will help you find a way to escape, and sometimes he walks through the fire with you. But I am starting to realize that as much as I've battled God, nothing that happens here on this earth changes who God is." Important words from special agent Nikki Boyd, grounded in lessons that didn't come easily. Lessons that began with her younger sister's abduction, continued with the death of her closest friend, and were punctuated as she dealt with victims and their families throughout her career in law enforcement.
Lisa Harris immediately engages her readers in this first installment of The Nikki Boyd Files. Nikki's current case leads her team into the wilderness of the great Smokey Mountains, a place where it is easy to disappear, and to make others disappear. Her team is assisted by local police officers, park rangers, and Tyler Grant, former member of an elite combat force fighting in the Middle East, in pursuit of sixteen year old Bridget Ellison and her abductors. Harris builds suspense, and then doubles and triples it. Emotions run high and bottom out during the course of the investigation, both the characters' and the readers'.
While this book is the first in a series, the author ties up this mystery, making it a good stand alone read for those who don't want to wait for months to see what happens next. She does, however, leave enough loose ends to make readers happy when they see that book two has become available at their favorite bookseller. I thank Revell and the Christian Blog Alliance for this copy of Vendetta in exchange for my personal opinion. I have received no compensation for providing this review.

Predictable and Cliche by AlannieM on 10/19/2015

I recently finished reading Vendetta by Lisa Harris. While this book had its entertaining moments, I found it to be a little predictable and cliche. The premise was interesting, and I was intrigued to see how things would turn out. Overall, I felt that the situations in this book didn't really have that significant of an impact on the characters or the future books in this series. The romance? Eh, I wasn't impressed. Sure, they aren't admitting their feelings or whatever, but it is so obvious it's almost painful to read. Also, the villain in the story felt a little like a cop out to me. Not fully developed and- like the romance- very obvious, at least to me. Not boring to read, but slightly tired feeling. I probably won't continue in this series. I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Review: I really liked this first book in the Nikki Boyd series. The tension between Bridget missing and her own sister’s disappearance was fantastic. There was so much that happened in a short period of time. The entire book was edge of your seat thriller. There was just enough down time to catch your breath when something else would occur. The unravelling at the end was fantastic while it played out in a high tension setting. I love a mystery that keeps you going to the end. I can not wait for the next book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Lisa. I really liked all the characters in the book, they seemed real venerable and very sincere. Even the bad guy(s) were realistic!
