The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) currently has over 11 million members and 56,000 full-time missionaries, more than any other single missionary sending organization in the world. These missionaries convert over 310,000 people annually. Partly because Christians lack substantive resources with which they can counter Mormon claims, a staggering number of these converts, perhaps as many as 80%, come from Protestant backgrounds. For example, it has been said that enough Baptists become Mormons each year to fill 52 medium-sized Baptist churches. In Mormon circles the saying is, "We baptize a Baptist church every week." Within fifteen years there will likely be 110,000 full time LDS missionaries converting more than 672,000 persons annually. Sociologists predict that within eighty years the Mormon religion will have in excess of 265 million adherents, making it the first world-religion to arise since Islam.
