Primal

According to pollster George Barna, 83% of Americans Claim to be Christian but only 16% fit the biblical description or meet the biblical criteria. How can there be so much talk among evangelicals about doctrine, spirituality and worship styles while a whole generation misses the mark of true faith?
For an answer, Mark Batterson decides to drop every definition but the one Christ gave in answer to the question, "Of all the commandments, which commandment is the most important?" (Mark 12:28). "We've got to be great at the Great Commandment," Batterson writes. "If we are going to rediscover the primal essence of Christianity, we've got to rediscover what it means to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength."
In Primal, the author launches his search for Christian essentials underground--in the catacombs of Rome, where early Christians lived out their faith in the most restrictive circumstances. From that starting point, Batterson leads readers into a surprising encournter with what he calls the four elements of primal Christianity.
Primal compassion (heart:); Primal wonder (soul); Primal curiosity (mind); Primal power (strength).
The promise of Primal for the reader is a rediscovery of the simple, radical and authentic faith Jesus taught. Such an encounter, Batterson believes, will ignite the next reformation of Christianity. "Reformations are not the by product of new ideas or new methods. Reformations are the product of rediscovering something ancient, something primal," writes Batterson. This reformation "won't be lead by a single person or marked by a singular event, but will be a movement lead by millions of reformers living creatively, compassionately and courageously for the cause of Christ."
