The FeastJoshua GravesIn The Feast, Josh Graves explores the terribly important question of what it means to reconfigure Christianity as a way of life, instead of a mere system of beliefs. Along the way, we are reminded of the sharp, sometimes jagged edges of the Jesus story which challenge our pre-conceived notions of what discipleship entails. But the story is not just of the cost of discipleship, but its joy too: So Josh also gives us a picture of a great feast, indeed, a compelling picture of a life lived in genuine liberty and thus beauty.Writing humbly and without condemnation at a time when Christianity is clearly in decline in the West, Josh Graves invites Christians to imagine with him what it looks like for things to be on earth as they are in heaven and to prayerfully contend for it to be so. “Here is a book that asks one of the most dangerous questions in the world: ‘What if Jesus really meant the stuff he said?’ The Feast is an invitation to taste the goodness of God in Jesus, the Jesus who has been able to survive the mistakes of Christendom. And it is my prayer that all of us who feast on Christ will become what we eat—for the world is starving for Good News that they can see and taste and feel.” — Shane Claiborne, author, activist, and recovering sinner; www.thesimpleway.org “In my ministry on a college campus I find young Christians and old who are yearning for a spirituality that demands everything and returns joy unending. Like loaves and fishes with baskets leftover, this book will fill those who hunger after God with good things. Read, and feast on the gospel of Christ. “ —Craig Kocher, Associate Dean of the Chapel, Duke University “Young adults will be especially drawn to this book: it deals with the messy world in which they are coming of age. And of course, older folks who have grown tired and disillusioned with religion-as-usual will also find a feast in these pages.” —Brian McLaren, from the Foreword

Through Josh’s stories, one can visualize what it means to work and be present “in the margins, which according to Jesus, is the preferred location of his ministry.” As connections are made to today’s world, one truly can feast on the scriptures presented in the book and be moved to loving, Christ-like action. 15 out of 26 visitors found this review helpful. Did you find this review helpful? "The Feast" by Josh Graves is a true and timely conversation about actively imagining the Kingdom of God here on Earth. Graves asks us to consume stories of scripture in a way that actually brings us to the well with the Samaritan woman. He reminds us that these stories are our stories. And these stories are continually playing out in the lives around us. By adding an autobiographical flavor to the plate, Graves shows us how we can very practically do life though the eyes of Jesus Christ. With "The Feast," Graves leaves you hungry to experience the world the way Christ did. 17 out of 34 visitors found this review helpful. Did you find this review helpful? In an age where Scripture is being cast aside for more practical models of ministry, Josh Graves has given a new vision for a new kind of Christianity that embodies the Scripture in culturally relevant ways. The answer isn't fundamentalism or liberalism. It's to find God at the place where the world of Scripture meets our neighborhoods and cities. Graves isn't interested in a life of faith that sides with social justice or contemplative spirituality. He doesn't choose sides. Instead, he pushes his readers to interact with their world through Jesus, the Word made flesh. If you find yourself discouraged by many young authors lamenting the failure of Christianity, allow The Feast to give you new hope in Scripture's ability to bring resurrection where only death reigned before. 16 out of 33 visitors found this review helpful. Did you find this review helpful? The Feast is an excellent book. It calls us to a total commitment. After reading Joshua's book, I was inspired to rededicate my life to Christ. Since then I have had several roadblocks but my joy continues. He is right. When you follow the words of The Feast, you experience "joy unending." I am giving this book to nearly everyone on my Christmas list this year. -- Dana 17 out of 33 visitors found this review helpful. Did you find this review helpful? Other titles that may interest you
