not my favorite - Rachel - 8/13/2009
I am a HUGE fan of hawknelson, ever since their first record... but this was by far one of their worst.... it was kind cartoony in a way which lost me, its great for tweens, but if their trying to reach more mature audiences I think they need to step it up a little... I did love the amy grant duet... but other than that... thumbs down

Great Christmas Gift! - Jeffery (Saginaw, MI) - 12/29/2008
My 11-year-old son and I listen to Air One radio. He loves the song "Friend Like That" and was delighted to receive this special edition with DVD and board game!

Use the term "pop-punk" loosely, but rock out anyway... - Joshua (Bel Air, MD) - 12/10/2008
I'm fairly critical of pop-punk. There's just so much of it out there, so it has to be done right. There hasn't been much room for middle ground with this genre in the past, but increased exposure opens those doors a little. Well, I've been on a little pop-punk kick lately, with bands like Relient K, Stellar Kart, Yellowcard, and MEST getting some extra time on my iPod. So I feel like I have enough to compare this record to, and give it a fair shake.

A lot of the Christian "pop-punk" bands are trying to ease their way into the mainstream, knowing that the cash cow of pop-punk is clearly on its way out soon. Usually, if I read a sentence like that in a review, that would be where I check out. I was once one of "those guys" who couldn't accept a band that turned the dials down on their guitar amps to appeal to a larger audience. Well, with this record, it doesn't matter what side of that fence you're on, because it's simply a good record.

It's not as fast-paced as, say, Relient K's older stuff, nor is it as good. Honestly, that shouldn't be a surprise; after all, Relient K's "Mmhmm" set the bar for what a pop-punk record should be. But this record has some addicting melodies, it packs a great message, and it's just fun. It draws a little from the older and newer schools of pop-punk, reminding me of Face to Face at times, and MEST or Sum 41 in others. There are some nice guitar riffs that'll get stuck in your head, too, though they are more rock-oriented. If you get the deluxe edition, the acoustic version of "One Little Miracle" is a pleasant surprise. I haven't been an Amy Grant fan since "Unguarded" (Kudos if you even remember that album), but her vocals on the track really compliment it well.

I can appreciate fun music. That's really what pop-punk's role is for me. It's bright, poppy, and full of hooks. I'm trying to avoid the use of the word "catchy" here, because I think the term is a bit overused. But it does apply here. If you have a soft spot for this genre, you wont go wrong with this one. But it isn't entirely reserved for pop-punk diehards.
