Romance & suspense on the Iditarod trail! by J. Augustine on 4/29/2015

Iditarod. What a magic word. And when you pair it with the name Dani Pettrey you have the winningest combination on the trail. If I hadn't already fallen in love with Dani Pettrey's suspense stories, and the McKenna family, I would have picked this book up solely based on the cover. I had been looking forward to this book since the cover and blurb were first revealed to fans. Believe me, it didn't disappoint.

Sabotaged was such a fun book to read. Not only was it my favorite genre and from a favorite author, but it also features my favorite sporting event of the year. It was so neat reading those oh-so-familiar checkpoints. And the suspense? Sabotaged is full of Dani's trademark adventure and romance. I found myself breathlessly turning pages as they edged closer and closer to probable disaster and the final showdown. If you've read any of the previous books in the Alaskan Courage series you will know how much of a nail-biter they can be.

Wonderful cast of characters, I really liked Reef and Kirra, with appearances from all of the McKenna clan. I'm just sorry that Sabotaged is the last book in the series, I really don't want to say goodbye. One of the things that really stood out to me is how people often don't, and won't, fit into the boxes we create for them. Just when you think you've really got them pegged, they surprise us. Past mistakes, thoughts, and attitudes, are just that, past.

Sabotaged is a wonderful tale of adventure and suspense set in the Alaskan bush during one of the toughest and most exciting races in the world. Iditarod!

Review: Great Storyline. The McKenna family is fun and it was great to read the final in the series. Everyone made an appearance. With the Iditarod as the backdrop for the suspense was fantastic. It seemed at times that the bad guys had eyes everywhere and that may it more intense. Kirra was very well written and demonstrated a growth throughout the book that made it enjoyable. Loved Reef, he was easy going and likable from his original appearance in previous books. The story lined challenged ‘the how far would you go’ questioned with the buffer of in faith we are in Christ, that we must pray and look to Him for our way in this fallen world. Not preachy but very thought provoking.

I would like to thank Bethany House for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

Great Wrap Up to An Amazing Series by Seasons of Opportunities on 3/13/2015

First off, I have to say, I am just fascinated by Dani's talent! As a homeschooling mom myself, I just have no idea where she finds the time to write, much less come up with these amazing stories. Obviously, God has given her an incredible talent for writing as well as developing plots.

I have read every McKenna book, and can't pick a favorite even if I tried! Each book has its own character and special place in my heart. If you haven't had the opportunity to meet the McKenna's then you should take it! Even though I would recommend you begin at Book 1 - Submerged, each book is a stand alone and can be followed whether you read the whole series or not.

This book, Sabotaged, is no exception. I was caught up from the beginning in Reef and Kirra's Iditarod experience as well as the mystery surrounding it. It contains one twist after the other, filled with suspense, mystery, and of course just the perfect amount of romance!

My favorite part of the book, was the way Dani incorporates faith into her series. Reef and Kirra's faith as they pray together, for me, just touched a heart string. Kirra has secrets from her past, and fears she has been dealing with for years, not to mention the newest fear for her uncle and cousin. Reef becomes an anchor for her, and encourages growth in her faith in God as he helps her face and deal with her fears. In turn, she is surprised and amazed at his change in character from what she had always seen growing up. This new identity resounds with her and love begins to grow. But for anything to come of it, they must be able to escape the clutches of the enemy and survive as well as find a way to rescue her cousin and uncle from a definite uncanny end.

Of course, as in all the other books in the series, watching the love blossom between the other McKenna siblings is also a bonus. A midst all the bizarre circumstances, Jake is trying to find a way to propose to Kayden, and Gage and Darcy are an amazing team. Following them through all the books makes you feel like you know each and every one of them personally.

Do I recommend this book? Yes! Yes! And Yes!! And all the other books in this series for that matter!

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

Danger At Every Turn by Maureen on 2/24/2015

Dani Pettrey has done it again, and we are back in Alaska with the extended McKenna family. This time we are following the Iditarod and Kirra Jabobs and Reef MccKenna are thrown together in a desperate effort to rescue her Uncle Frank’s daughter, and her cousin, Meg.
Again there seems to be danger at each turn, and who have to wonder who will be left by the end of the book. Whether someone is shooting at you, or being a car careening off the road and into icy water there is lots of danger and more to go around. The question we start asking is “why”? How can anyone survive all that seems to be happening?
We are introduced to the stealing of a valuable Fabragé egg, the rich oil fields, and the natural minerals that abound in Alaska, and are trying to connect the dots as to what needs to be done to save Meg. Or is there another angle that we are not seeing clearly.
Through all the troubles we find great faith and a love of God, He is there with then at each turn, and all they need to do is ask for his help. There is also a bit of romance going on here, one we have followed from another book, and a new one, but will the budding love be able to survive?
I loved this book and the others in this series, they are all page-turners, and full of mystery. You don’t have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one, but I would recommend you read them, they are all equally as exciting as this one. Enjoy!

I received this book through Bethany House Bloggers Tour, and was not required to give a positive review.

With the release of Sabotaged, the final book of her Alaskan Courage Series, Dani Pettrey delivers one of the best inspirational romantic suspense books I've read. Prepare for an avalanche of excitement as Kirra Jacobs and the entire McKenna clan battle the harsh Alaskan winter in order to find Kirra's uncle and save his kidnapped daughter. As the Iditarod mushers push towards Nome, many lives hang in the balance as the team races the clock in search of answers.

Sabotaged perfectly balances a suspense rich plot with an emerging romance - leaving just enough room for a moving story of God's healing love. Pettrey demonstrates great skill at building tension by revealing bits and pieces of Kirra's story over time. I found the most poignant moments to be when Kirra shares her past, acknowledges God's continual presence even in trials, and her inability to mend her own heart. These events also highlighted how much Reef McKenna has grown between books. He has changed, or better yet God has changed him - his faith, his motives, and his actions. The fruit of which is the conflict-turned-romance between he and Kirra Jacobs.

As with the previous 4 books of the series, Sabotaged can stand alone. However, if you plan on reading the entire series this book will hold a few spoilers for the previous books. Returning fans need not worry if it's been awhile since you've read Silenced. Pettrey gives thoughtful reminders from her previous books to get you back in the groove. I believe Sabotaged to be a beautiful conclusion to our time spent with the McKenna family. I'm going to miss them {*sniff*}, but I am excited to read whatever Dani Pettrey writes next!!

Fantastic Conclusion to Alaskan Courage Series by Suzie on 1/24/2015

The McKenna siblings are back for the final book in Dani Pettrey’s Alaskan Courage Series. Reef McKenna and Kirra Jacobs are volunteering their Search and Rescue (SAR) skills during the Iditarod Race. When Kirra’s uncle doesn’t check in, she gets worried and goes looking for him. Reef won’t allow her to leave by herself and insists they go together. From the moment they find her uncle (well, even before that), the adventure begins. As Kirra and Reef, along with some of Reef’s family, search for Kirra’s kidnapped cousin. If they don’t find her by the end of the race, lives will be lost. As Reef and Kirra fly to several destinations they face not only the elements of the unforgiving Alaska terrain but also horrors from their past. And someone might be following them in an attempt to stop them from locating Meg.

alaskan courage series

Sabotaged is a fitting conclusion to this series. The entire family once again joins together to solve a mystery, putting all of their skills to use. I’ve been to Alaska once (my parents lived there for three years) and Pettrey describes the cold exactly as I remember it. The setting of the famous dogsled race allows readers to learn more about the beautiful state of Alaska and some of the fun stops along the Iditarod. Action, adventure, and lots of romance are Pettrey’s signature and she’s still going strong. The only disappointment is that this series is over, but the good news is this: she’s working on a new series.

Sabotaged, Alaskan Courage Book 5***** by Dani Pettrey

Sabotaged is the 5th and final book in the Alaskan Courage Series; picking up with Reef McKenna and Kirra Jacob's story. Reef and Kirra work Search and Rescue—SAR and have been paired together as part of the SAR teams for the annual Iditarod race in Alaska. This grueling race is not for the faint at heart. The trail itself is treacherous enough—below zero temperatures, mounting snow and severe storms makes it even more dangerous.

Kirra's uncle Frank has been one of the mushers of the Iditarod race for many years. However, something is wrong...Frank is missing! He has not checked into the check-in-points. Kirra and Reef go out in the middle of the night on a snow mobile with -10 degrees temperatures, biting wind and snow in search for Frank. They do find him, but he is off the races trail. He tells Kirra his daughter, Meg, has been kidnapped. He is off on a secret mission in order to save Meg. He tells Kirra and Reef they cannot involve the police or her kidnappers will kill her. Thus begins the frantic search for Meg. Where do they begin? Who would have her and why? What about the mission Frank is on—what is it and how does it tie into Meg's kidnapping? The McKenna family joins the search for Meg and Frank.

Surprising secrets from the past are revealed. Once the secret is out, will it bring much sought after healing? As with the other books in the series; there are twists and turns, unexpected clues, building suspense, danger, murder, sabotage, heartache, as well as restoration, joy, strong family ties, strong faith, faith that is restored, love and romance. I enjoyed watching Kirra draw closer to God as she and Reef search for Meg and the developing relationship/romance between Reef and Kirra. The descriptions of the Alaskan scenery are fantastic, (I hope to visit Alaska some day to see for myself). It is good to catch up on the characters from the other 4 books as they join Reef and Kirra in the search. There is so much more to this story, but I don't want to spoil it for the readers. I love all the books in this series, and it is kinda sad to see it end. This is an amazing, gripping story you don't want to miss.
