- Excellent Children's Literature by BC on 11/4/13
I believe this book is and excellent contribution to children's literature not only in its illustration but in its literary style as well. I have been teaching preschool for almost 17 years now and it is difficult to find children's books with a Christian message that are written well and that have a good message. This book, inspired by the donkey from John 12:13-15, used true literary style to show us the heart and power of Jesus through the eyes of this little donkey. A modern day parable for sure. I read this to a group of pre-k children, Easter before last and it brought all of us to tears inspiring a little girl to ask for prayer for her grandmother and a chain reaction of children asking for prayer followed.

The illustrations are great, but aside from that I don't care for this book one bit. I was very disappointed, actually. The story begins with children atop of the donkey; at one point the owner becomes angry with the donkey (so this teaches our children: if you don't like something/one you can have a bad attitude?), another part tells of other people trying to ride him, and eventually this "magic" happens and the donkey feels healing in his soul. I'm sorry, but animals do not have souls and Jesus worked miracles, not fluffy butterfly-filled magic. This book will be going in the trash because we cannot be teaching our children such warped un-truths written about a verse in Scripture.
