- Freshen Up Your Prayer Life by Praying Scripture by Laura Langley on 3/5/2014
Looking for a way to freshen up your prayer life? Dr. James Banks's new book, "Praying the Prayers of the Bible," guarantees added freshness for the flattest of prayer lives.
In the book, Dr. Banks focuses on helping readers make the prayers of the Bible their own. He says, "When we pray the prayers of the Bible, we learn healthy patterns for communicating with God instead of just rushing in with whatever is on our minds at the moment. Praying these prayers helps us praise Him more and reach new depths of thankfulness. They also teach us how to intercede for others, be brutally honest about our sins, and give more of ourselves to God. They show us how to wrestle with doubts and questions and pour out our hearts to God, even proving that we're allowed to ask Him 'Why' and 'How long?'"
"Praying the Prayers of the Bible" certainly energized my prayer life. It’s given me new words, new ways, to express my thoughts and feelings. As I read and prayed through the “Prayers for Praising and Honoring God” section, I found myself filled with joy and praise at the greatness of God. The “Prayers to Say Thank You” section led me to a new level of gratitude for God’s goodness and mercy. Working through the “Prayers for Confessing Sin and Humbling Ourselves,” I felt a new sense of freedom and joy in forgiveness. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that this book is a wonderful tool to add to your toolbox when it comes to prayer. It’s practical and biblical, and it gives the reader a fresh new perspective on how to pray. I highly recommend it for those new in the faith all the way to the seasoned follower of Jesus. You can't go wrong praying God's Word back to Him, and this is an excellent resource to train you to do exactly that.
