Christian Shelf-Esteem's review of My Keepsake Bible by Amanda on 1/23/2015
Rating

If you are looking for a nice addition to a baby shower gift basket or a christening/baby dedication gift then My Keepsake Bible by Sally Ann Wright and Tyndale Kids is a nice selection. As a Baby’s 1st Bible, My Keepsake Bible scores big in the cuteness department. The padded, uni-sex cover will compliment any nursery decor. Beyond the cover you will find a dedication page, along with pages to record the baby’s vitals and a brief genealogy. These pages are followed by 22 Old Testament and 27 New Testament bible stories. Additionally, the author has included Psalm-based prayers to speak over (or with) the child. The stories are brief enough to hold a child’s attention while still conveying God’s love, protection, and mighty works.

This bible is well suited as a baby gift or an everyday bible for children up to age 5. I believe it is great book for familiarizing children with popular bible stories. You may notice if you read multiple stories in one sitting that My Keepsake Bible lacks transitions between the Old Testament stories. These transitions are present in the New Testament stories, perhaps because the NT stories cover a shorter time period. As my children grew, I felt that it was important to call sin – sin and there is a lack of emphasis on both sin and the need for redemption in this publication. I’ll share a few examples to illustrate my point: Jesus tells James and John, “Leave your fishing nets and help me tell people how good God is. Help me to make bad people good and sad people happy.” Later, in the Easter story, Jesus tells the disciples that he will die for them but doesn’t give the why – redemption/rescue from sin. Finally, at Pentecost Peter tells the crowd, “He died on the cross because He loves you. Tell Jesus you are sorry and He will forgive you.” This may not be as important for very young children, but as I stated, the price of sin and the need of a savior is an important concept for this mother to convey to my own children. My Keepsake Bible also lacks a life application section, present in many other children’s bibles, if this is something you desire check out My First Hands-On Bible (also published by Tyndale Kids).

I love anything keepsake....it makes great memories to share with our children. "My Keepsake Bible" is going to make a great gift for a mom-to-be, baby's Christening, welcome home gift, 1st Birthday or just because. This is a hard back book with 141 pages.

"My Keepsake Bible" is going to make a great gift and it is something that parents can pass on to their children. I can't wait to share this bible with a special someone.
