Exclusive Interview Jennifer: Somebody from the local Bible church, one that we know is biblically sound. Jeromy: Or the radio station. Sometimes a radio station will look at the addresses and send them, like if there's 3 different towns that they cover, they'll send them to First Baptist or whatever of each town. And those folks will call and Matt tells them, "It's not a counseling time at the concert." We stay away from the counseling thing. If someone wants to be prayed with, somebody back there will pray with them. It's more about them enjoying the rest of the show and somebody later calling, saying, "Hey, I heard at the concert you prayed the prayer of salvation. I've been praying for you. How can I help you?" And if they say, "Don't call me again" they don't get called. FamilyChristian.com: It's good, though, that they're still being followed up, regardless, and then they have their choice. Jeromy: Michael was saying earlier in an interview, we try to be evangelistic in everything we do. Even in our last CD, as soon as you picked up the CD, you saw the prayer of salvation. This same way, as soon as you lift up the CD on Have I Ever Told You, the first line says, "Has anyone ever told you how much Jesus loves you?" They can follow and pray the prayer of salvation. FamilyChristian.com: Your music attracts fans of all ages. What message do you give the kids who want to talk to you? Michael: Our one message, if we could say one thing, it's to tell people about Jesus and have them know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that their eternity is secure with Jesus Christ. Our mission statement is to reach as many people for Jesus Christ as quickly as we can. But you know, we want to encourage the church too. Every night before concerts we pray that God would allow us to encourage the church, to edify the church. I think more than anything, it's just kind of the Barnabas attitude, being able to encourage people and uplift people, give them a chance maybe to see something from a little different perspective. Jeromy: I think it's cool too, for little kids, to understand that Jesus…there's nothing dorky or uncool about loving Jesus. You know what I mean? It's not a fad. It's not just for your moms and dads. When you look at Jesus in the Bible, He's always hanging out with kids. He said, "Let the little children come unto me." We love little kids. We have concerts where kids are sitting on the stage and sitting at our feet. Michael: Sitting
in our laps. FamilyChristian.com: If you had to write a review for Have I Ever Told You, how would you describe it? Jennifer: The best record of the year. Buy it. [laughs]. Brian: We loved our other records when they came out and we still love playing those songs but for me, the only way I can describe it is kind of like, this record is, it's almost like in color, compared to black and white. Jeromy: It's just like there's so many different dynamics. Not that the other records were boring because, I mean, to say that would be negating God's ministry through them because we'll be playing "Big Fish" and "One of These Days" and "Lord Move" and "When I Praise" until we're dead. That doesn't make Brian too happy. But this record…we feel so involved in it. We feel like it's gone from black and white to color. FamilyChristian.com: It does seem like a progressionyou're more involved on the songwriting side and also more instrumentation. Is that a purposeful progression or is that an experiment for this record? Jeromy: I think it's just a progression. We've always just kind of hung our hat on Michael instrumentally. In the concerts, Mike's the one that plays. I mean, he plays for an hour and a half straight through the concert. As we're talking and doing other things, Mike's playing. But on this record, all of us got involved musically. Brian and I wrote together. Mike, obviously, has got some songs on the record and I've got some of my own. We were way more involved with Scott, our producer, this time. Scott has become so trustworthy of FFH that he called me and said, "Who do you want to play on this record?" And I told him, "I want us to play as much as possible" but then I got to help pick the other players. He let us pick the studios we're recording at. It's almost like we produced. Jennifer: We enjoyed the singing a lot more too because we weren't dead tired, getting off the road, running into the studio. We had two and a half months off that we went in, we went into the studio and sang. It was so much more relaxed and I think it came through on the record. Jeromy: And every day in the studio, we listened to the stuff that we did. And if we didn't like it, we said, "We're not leaving." And Scott was like, "We're in for the ride." We came back from a show and we're like, "There's things that we want to fix." And he's like, "I don't hear it." And we're like, "We don't care. We're fixing it."
Michael: One time in particular, I remember Jennifer was singing and she wasn't happy with what she'd sang and so the producer left and Jeromy stayed and produced the vocal on the song. FamilyChristian.com: And I have to ask, what was your favorite FFH acronym from Gary Chapman? Brian: French fries and hamburgers, by far. Michael: My dad has a pretty good oneFar From Harmony. That's what he calls us. Jeromy: I think some guy called usthis is not an acronymsomebody called us Three Guys and a Chick. Three Guys and a Blonde. We could call ourselves that because people would know who they're talking about. Somebody would say, "We're going to hear Three Guys and a Blonde." Oh, FFH. < Previous Page | Next Page >
