Full Name:
Jeremy Paul Thiessen
Favorite Sports Team: Vancouver Grizzlies (but they are now moving…to
Memphis, I think!)
Have you read any good books lately? Many: Every
Man's Battle by Fred Stoeker & Stephen Arterburn, If
You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat by
John Ortberg, The Discipline of Grace by Jerry Bridges, The
Ishbane Conspiracy by Randy Alcorn, The Bear and the Dragon
by Tom Clancy…
Favorite Bible Verse: Titus 2:6-8. This is just a great reminder
to me that there ARE people out there who oppose me, and to live my life
day in and day out conscious of that so as to avoid giving them any legitimate
reason to do so.
Family Facts: I have a 20 year-old brother named Dave, a 16 year-old
brother named Steve, a 12 year-old sister named Julia, and we have a golden
retriever named Coda. I love my family very much…I can't wait until they
can come visit me in Nashville!
What song
do you wish you wrote:
"Calmer of the Storm" by Jason Germainit's a great song to begin
with, and every time we play it speaks to my heart afresh…which makes
me wonder how it impacts people who hear it for the first time!
If you weren't an artist, what would you be? I think I'd be travelling
from college campus to college campus teaching workshops on spiritual
gift development, leadership development, etc. Quite a non-artistic direction,
really…
What is God teaching you now? The depth of His grace, what dependence
on the Lord really looks (and feels) like, and patience, patience, patience...
If you could meet anyone, who would it be? My wife! :) And then
after her, I would love to meet Abe Lincoln for oneI love reading
about his life, because it is always evident what a man of integrity he
was. Martin Luther King Jr. would be another whose life (and death) was
a testimony to Christ...and I wouldn't mind hanging out with Steven Curtis
Chapman for a while to pick his brain on how he has managed to maintain
his integrity and family throughout so many years in the Christian music
industry.
What do you hope to be doing in ten years? Raising a family with
my beautiful wife in Franklin while doing some sort of leadership development
thing... But I've already learned not to plan too far in advance, so I
just kind of sit back and enjoy each day as it comes... and dream big
dreams, just on the off chance that I will be around to enjoy them!
Favorite Board Game: I really like Balderdash, 'cause it's a game
that doesn't require smarts, just the ability to sound smart! (Which is
the story of my life…)
Hobbies: Sleeping is a big one, working out, playing sports (basketball,
tennis, football, swimming, whatever's going on...), camping, canoeing...that's
a good start I think!
Favorite Soda: In Canada we don't drink soda, actually…we drink
pop. So my favorite pop would have to be Diet Coke, but people keep telling
me that it's going to kill me, so I'm sort of reconsidering.
What was the first instrument you learned to play? Pianoand
I gave it up to play percussion in the school band. A word to the wise:
don't ever quit piano…you'll regret it later!
Favorite Place: Sitting staring into a campfire out in the boonies
late at night just enjoying the crackle of the fire with friends.
Favorite comfort/pig out food: Ice cream…but frozen yogurt's much
healthier!
Favorite Cartoon: I never watched cartoons as a kid… I was too
busy practicing piano (right Mom?)
Favorite Movie: Shanghai Noon, Hoosiers, Rudy,
The Shawshank Redemption, the list goes on... and don't ask me
for only one 'cause I'll never give it to you!
Must See TV: The NCAA Final Four
Most cherished possession: My new drum kit and some really nice
letters form my brothers and sister
Dream Wheels: Any car would be great at the moment…But I would
be happy with a Toyota Tundra so that I can take off and go camping any
time, anywhere… "I'm a lumberjack and I don't care…"
If you could be any kind of tree, what would you be? A palm tree…that
would be probably my first and only chance to spend a prolonged amount
of time anywhere tropical!
In your humble opinion, what is the best album ever? You know what?
I don't really have an opinion on this one…although I'm sure U2's come
pretty close a number of times!
What is in your CD player right now? I was hoping you'd ask that:
Shaun Groves' new album Invitation
to Eavesdropgreat album! Go pick it up the first chance
you get…
First question
you will ask God when you get to Heaven? Why didn't you take me sooner?
What question
do you think He will ask you? Why did you keep dragging you're feet?
What event from 1999 still influences you today? 1999 was the year
I served as Student Body President at my Bible College for the second
year in a row, and I say that only because it was during those two years
that I really discovered a lot about myself, my strengths and weaknesses,
my abilities (and non-abilities!), and the need for continued growth in
my walk with the Lord.
Chicken
or Steak? Chicken…but a steak is definitely nice sometimes.
