After a long and lonely silence from Cody Coleman, Bailey becomes closer to her one-time Hollywood co-star, Brandon Paul. Nights on the town in New York City and long talks on the balcony of Brandon's Malibu beach home make Bailey dizzy with new feelings and cause her to wonder if her days with Cody are over forever.
Meanwhile, Cody's coaching of a small-town football team has earned national attention. In the midst of the celebration and success, Cody finds himself growing closer to a woman who seems to better understand him and his new life. Even so, Bailey and Cody experience deep feelings of longing for each other, both for the past and for answers they need in order to move forward.
Will an unexpected loss be the turning point for Cody? Will Cody and Bailey find a way back together again for the first time in more than a year? And if they do, will their brief time together be enough to help them remember all they've been longing for?

- Wonderful book from a wonderful author by Paula on 1/15/2012
I could not put the book down and read it in a day! "Longing," which is the the third book in the Bailey Flannigan Series by Karen Kingsbury, iw well written as all KK's books are. I thought it was a great title for the book because as you read it you see many meanings for the word "Longing." I do not want to spoil the story so I will say the most important definition for me is a "Longing" for our Savior, Jesus Christ. Karen Kingsbury does the best job presenting this concept in all of her books.
Karen is the best author. Even though the book is fiction, it's real in the way you perceive life. The integration with scripture and the presentation of salvation and the need for a Savior is present in "Longing" as well as her other books.
I thought I was always "Team Cody" but Brandon has really grown on me. He is so sweet to Bailey. This is a wonderful love story, however, I did feel sad toward the end due to an illness with one of the characters and an expected realization. However, the ending was just what it needed to be.
I have enjoyed following Bailey from the beginning through the Redemption series and feel like I have watched her grow up. Her love for the Lord is inspiring. I have three sons, but if I ever had a daughter I would want her to be exactly like Bailey. Bailey is a wonderful character and I absolutely can't wait until March to read the last book *Loving." Great job, as always, Karen Kingsbury!

Longing (Bailey Flanigan Series) (Paperback)
Longing, the third book in the Bailey Flanigan Series by Karen Kingsbury, made me LONG for more of Karen's writing! Once Karen's books hit the stores, I am there to buy it. I love the feel of a REAL book in my hand--not an electronic device! As I turn the pages and read Karen's Christian fiction, I feel so close to God! Karen continually quotes scripture throughout her books that apply to the situation and we can also apply those to our lives every day! I have met Karen and her family at several Women's conferences over the years and they are such an inspiration to me! As she writes her books, I love seeing the resemblance of her family with the story line. In the book "Longing", knowing that Bailey Flanigan is Kelsey was so exciting! And to make it more exciting for me, I purchased the book right before making my first trip to New York City. As I read Longing on the airplane, I was right there with Bailey. I got off the plane in New York and could relate to how Bailey felt there! I went to Starbucks and thought of Bailey's Bible studies and how she changed so many lives in New York. As I watched a Broadway play, I imagined Bailey on stage dancing her heart out for God to every beat. I better understood how Bailey had taken the criticism of many of the cast members and the Director of the show because of her beliefs. By being in New York, God showed Bailey why he had brought her there and what her purpose in this season of her life really was! As I watched the craziness of New York on my trip, I thought of Bailey alot, but I also thought of each of us as we face these type of challenges every day. We need to learn from Bailey Flanigan. Shine for God and talk about Jesus to others like Bailey Flanigan did in this book! I did not worry myself about whether Bailey will choose Cody or Brandon Paul! I am going to let God and Karen's inspiration handle that one in the last book! I can't wait to turn the pages of "Loving" in the Spring of 2012! Warning!! Karen Kingsbury books are addictive!!
- A greater love story by God's Girl on 12/3/2011
As I longed for LONGING to be release, I found myself wondering how the book would end before I even read the first page. So much was bound to be answered within the pages of this book. Once I had LONGING in my hands and began to read, I soon realized the storyline was going to be much deeper than just who Bailey Flanigan would end up with, Cody Coleman or Brandon Paul.
No, within these pages, I found not only a love story between these three characters, but I found a much greater love story...a love story with God.
Karen Kingsbury, once again, has used her books to teach us how we all should have a Godly life. She has used her characters in these books to lead us on a closer walk with Jesus. And LONGING is no exception.
I've followed Bailey Flanigan's faith journey from the start and I'm still in awe of her. She is truly a servant of God in every aspect of her life...with her family, her friends, in her career, and with the two men in her life. She longs and seeks God's wisdom and understanding in every situation.
A few chapters in LONGING will forever stay in my heart. I've reread these parts of the book several times already. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I will quote a verse from Romans 12: "Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.." In this chapter I learned that nothing I confess could make Him love me less. For He longs for us to come to Him, to ask for new life in Jesus Christ.
Another part of LONGING that touched my heart was the Christmas Eve service and the pastor's message. I could feel God's love coming through the pages. A message of longing, ".....For us to long for God is to long for a perfect love." So no matter what my flaws, if I long for His truth and His love, I will never be alone.
So, even though when I started reading LONGING, I was anticipating a continuing love story between either Bailey and Cody or Bailey and Brandon...and I must admit I loved the outcome of that love story....what I found was a continuing love story with Jesus Christ. I felt true peace within me when I closed the book. So all I can say is read LONGING and fall in love with JESUS.....the greatest love story ever.
