- HEARTWARMING AND HILARIOUS! by Moonpie on 12/22/2016
When we lived in the country we had lots of cats. They each had very distinct personalities and they never ceased to amuse or surprise us. I am an animal lover,
any kind of animal. I was drawn to this book by the cover and of course the fact that was a personal story about a person’s beloved pets. I have to admit I was a bit concerned. Many books like this are, well to put it politely, boring and mundane. Also my past experience with several has been the author talking more about themselves than the pet the book is supposed to be about.
This book was anything but boring! I found it entertaining, humorous and I learned many new things I did not know about cats and why the act the way they do. The author had the perfect balance in sharing personal history about herself and her beloved cats. They complimented each other.
Kit Kat and Lucy were both rescues that found the DuPont’s. Like most felines they waltzed into their lives and claimed the family lock, stock, and barrel. I applaud Ms. DuPont for her openness about her depression and anxiety. The story wrapped around my heart about how Kit Kat and Lucy responded in very sensitive and amazing ways to comfort and uplift her. Ways that only a pet owner would believe and understand. I related as since my husband’s death, I for the first time experience panic attacks. My dog Bill helps me with his show of canine concern and love. The cat’s antics and manipulation of their “skin parents” were hilarious. For me it proved the old saying, “You don’t own cats, they own you.” This book was a joy and a blessing to read!!
I received a copy of this book from Revell Reads. All opinions are my own.
- Life Changing Love by Becky on 10/1/2016
Lonnie DuPont's life was changed by a new relationship that brought her love, companionship, and lowered her anxiety. If you make the assumption that this is the tale of the author and her husband, Joe, you would be wrong. Instead, these life changes occurred after Lonnie and Joe adopted a stray cat, named Kit Kat. Or rather, Kit Kat adopted them.
This book is an endearing collection of true stories the author experienced after a cat came to be a part of her and Joe's life. The couple had recently left the bustle of San Francisco to live in an isolated farm house in Michigan. Lonnie had been used to rubbing shoulders with large numbers of people daily. Suddenly, she found herself spending lots of time alone each day. Joe's daily one and a half hour commute left lots of uninterrupted hours of silence for the author.
Then Kit Kat entered their lives, and everything changed. Kit Kat made an incredible journey of several miles in order to stay with them. This small furry animal had a definite personality, and both the DuPonts enjoyed learning Kit Kat's likes and dislikes--and she definitely had them. Lonnie reveled in the love that one little cat could give, and she shares stories of the different ways that took place. She also describes the deep affection Kit Kat and Joe develop for each other.
Later, a second cat, Lucy, also chose them for her family. They had a lot of concerns about bringing another cat into their home. Lonnie shares all the things they did to make sure Kit Kat would adjust to becoming a two-cat household. The team that Kit Kat and Lucy make, along with their influence on their owner's lives, is described in a charming way. She even tells how the two cats "taught" Joe and her to play games with them.
This is a sweet book about the DuPont's life after becoming cat owners. The author shares some dear stories that will touch your heart, and make you want to get a cat if you don't already have one. Adopting first one, then two cats really did change Lonnie's life, and her tales about how that happened will delight you. She also reminisces about other animals that passed through her life in her childhood, as well as, during her growing up years. All in all, this is a great book for any animal lover, and if you aren't, you may find your attitude changed after reading this book. Lonnie really pours out her heart in this memoir. The author makes a very good case that not all family members walk on two feet--some have four paws and fur! I highly recommend this 5-star book.
