Summing Jesus Up by Beth on 12/28/2015

How does one go about summing up the life of Jesus and who he was/is in 12 simple words? How does one teach a very young child about Jesus?

This book is a great way to do just that. The story and attributes of Jesus are well placed and allow the child to use their imagination while also seeing and reading what occurred during His time here on earth.
The illustrations are also incredible. The pictures give a clear image of the way Christ may have lived and allows the child to picture themselves within the pages of the book. The bright colors and child friendly drawings draw the child in.
The writing in this book also allows the adult to read it and not be overwhelmed with too many words, confusing words or long, drawn out concepts. It allows the reader to share the message of Jesus without becoming bored themselves through reading it.

Bringing the Bible to Your Toddler by Kate on 11/15/2015

From a practical standpoint, the book is sturdy and well built. (I have no doubt that it will hold it's own as it faces down rowdy toddlers of shape and size.) The pictures are also brightly colored, interesting, and close up, preventing an overloading amount of detail and allowing young eyes to really take in the shapes. Many different ethnicities are included in the illustrations so that every child can find someone who looks just like them. And last but not least, the word on each page is bold and easy to read, even for someone new to storytime.

But what kept me coming back were the scenes depicted and the words chosen by the team at Little Words Matter. This book was meant to give adults the opportunity to share exciting Bible stories that span the life of Jesus with young minds.

For example, the book opens with the word "Baby" and an illustration of Jesus in the manger. What a great opportunity to tell that story to a child. Especially when you can use the page in front of you to locate letters, count animals, and find baby Jesus!

A few pages later, we see the word "Teacher" with an illustration of Jesus preaching to a large group from the top of a hill. I don't know where your mind went, but I immediate thought of the sermon on the mount. At that young age, children LOVE to memorize! Why not use this page to teach the Beatitudes? Including Jesus, there are 9 people in the illustration, so it works out perfectly. When I tried it, I assigned each person on the page a Beatitude (leaving Jesus to represent the last one - "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.") If you were to do that every time you read this book, can imagine how much you AND your toddler would remember?

All in all, an excellent tool that I am more than happy to recommend!

12 words matter by Lori on 11/12/2015

12 words.
That’s all you get.
How would you describe Jesus?

Me? I didn't know. So before I opened this little book, I tried it myself. It was hard! Here is what I chose.

Okay. So then I opened the book and was utterly surprised! It was stunning!

Jesus is a beautiful board book that is designed for little hands. At about 6 inches by 5 inches, it is a good size for little hands and with the thick pages, it is sturdy. There are beautiful pictures that will appeal to children. I can see little ones loving this book about their Jesus!

The 12 words chosen for this book take the child through the life of Jesus, from birth to resurrection. 12 choice words encourage the children to see Jesus as one who is important to them and touches on his important qualities.

If your children are anything like mine were as toddlers, this will quickly become a favorite. Because the words are simple, it is easy to expand upon the picture and tell a story from the Bible that relates to that picture. This is a great way to bring more Bible to your child. The bright illustrations will help you introduce and teach your children about the one who is most important: Jesus.

Review from Rambles of a SAHM by Fitzysmom on 10/20/2015

If you could only use twelve words to describe the story of Jesus to your little one what would they be? Perhaps baby, temple, baptized, miracles, teacher, healer, loving, king, servant, cross, tomb, and finally Jesus! Those are the words that the team from Little Words Matter came up with and I think they encapsulate the story of Christ well.

These Little Words Matter books are filled with the fun and engaging illustrations by Holli Conger. Each page of the board book has a simple word that not only tells part of the story depicted but also allows little fingers to flip the pages as fast as their attention spans will allow.

Don't think for a minute that these words will have little impact. As I read them aloud I could feel the story building and that is also what your child will feel as they grow and continue to read and learn more and more about the Bible and the stories that are contained within.
