When rumors of the Michovs involvement in a Ponzi scheme reach Faith, she turns to Luke for confirmation, and he assures her that all is well. But when Luke is arrested, Faith can t understand why he would lie to her, and she runs home to the farm and the family she turned her back on years ago. Meanwhile, Luke is forced to turn to his own family for help as he desperately tries to untangle himself from his mistakes. THE PRODIGAL RETURNS! by Read4Him on 9/4/2013
Rating

Heart of the Country brings us a modern take on Jesus' Prodigal story with a prodigal daughter, Faith, coming home to her widower father, Calvin, and her dutiful, overworked, and stressed out older sister, Olivia.

The family was torn apart by the untimely death of Catherine, Calvin's wife and the girl's mother. No one ever healed, and Faith ran off to New York. Now, with her ill-conceived marriage in a shambles, Faith returns home to the family she left behind.

It's a true-to-life story about family, loss, recovery, marriage, and ultimately about the healing that comes with unconditional love written in an engaging multi-first person style.

A MUST READ!

If you love medical programs and extensive spotlights on death and loss, you will be a fan of this book. The story begins with Faith‘s loving mother, Catherine, slowly transitioning between life and death. She is in the ambulance on her way to the hospital following a car accident that left her in critical condition. As the story unfolds, Catherine’s first-person narrative of her final hours on earth damper the first half of an otherwise interesting and well written tale. The second half of the story focuses on Faith’s father dying of a terrible illness.
The couple’s journey back to one another is a decorative frame to a story about coping with loss and healing.
