- I think this is wonderful because over time, children will remember the stories word for word and be memorizing the Bible as they do! by Erin from Connected2Christ.com on 8/19/2014
God's Word For Me Bible Storybook illustrated by Marijke ten Cate and Compiled by Tana Fortner is unique to us! I've come across a lot of Bible Story books for my children but none quite like this. This book takes actual real Bible text from the International Children's Bible instead of a retelling of common know stories as you would expect. I think this is wonderful because over time, children will remember the stories word for word and be memorizing the Bible as they do!
The contents of this book consists of 13 Old Testament Stories, 13 New Testaments Stories, & 11 important resources for children. Bible character stories included Moses, Abram, Rahab, Joseph, Jesus, and many others. Each of the stories features a title, informs the reader where the selection of text was taken from in the Bible, and three important applications. The applications are Remember God's Word which is a Bible Verse to take to heart, Do God's Word which is how the story at hand could be applied in their life, & Pray God's word. Those three engaging applications are an excellent way to help children grow deeper in knowing more of God and what He's done for all of us!
Following the Old and New Testament stories is the important resources for children section. This section I'm thrilled was included in this book! It has the Ten Commandments, The Twenty Third Psalm, songs to learn such as Jesus Loves Me, a place for your child to mark off what stories in the book were read or verses they've memorized on the date they did so, and much more! These resources are a great go to for memorization & charting a child's progress whether being used at home or in Sunday School class setting.
Overall, the book is very well compiled and the illustrations are super kid friendly. My children ages 3 1/2 and 6 years old were certainly interested in the book right away and have been enjoying our Bible reading time quite a bit. The book is hardcover and even features a handy ribbon bookmark on the inside to keep track of where you were reading or will be reading next. This book would be great for any home or church setting and would make a wonderful gift for any child. I can't recommend it enough!
- Review from Rambles of a SAHM by Fitzysmom on 7/21/2014
Pouring the Word of God into my kids at every opportunity is important to me. I believe that the words contained within the Bible are the very words of life. Since the stories contained in the book do not change I am always on the lookout for new and interesting ways to convey that message to my children.
God's Word For Me Bible Storybook contains all the major themes of the Old and New Testaments. The text used is from the International Children's Bible and is written on a level that is easily understood for most children. The illustrations that accompany each account are colorful and do a great job of enhancing the story.
What sets this book apart from the dozens of other Bible storybooks are all the little extra learning tools that are included. Throughout the book there are small sections in the midst of each story that contain suggested memory verses, relevant activities, and easy to repeat prayers. Those things are nice and I think they will be very helpful but what I really liked were the resources in the back of the book.
There are a couple of charts that will allow your child to keep track of verses that they have memorized and their reading progress. There are also several sections of things that I think are of upmost importance to teach your children. Among them are the Lord's Prayer, the Twenty-Third Psalm, a list of the twelve apostles, the twelve tribes of Israel and of course the books of the Bible.
This book is just a fabulous resource for family devotions or homeschooling Bible lessons. It is a great beginning for setting up a routine of Bible study for your children that can develop into a life-long journey into the Word of God.
