Rest for the Weary

Are you seeking rest? Whether it means better sleep or a just a few moments to relax, the past year has thrown most of us on a quest for rest. Rest. Peace. Renewal. A breather from the constant stress of life or work or the churnings in your mind.

I watched my grandbaby this weekend. He was overtired and desperately needed sleep. Fortunately, I had the sense of mind to grasp what he needed, so with a bottle of milk in my hand, I scooped him up and we settled on the couch. As his eyelids began to droop, I began speaking over his sweet little soul. Words of scripture, words of promise, words of destiny…

— You were wonderfully and fearfully made in God’s good image.

— You will be taught of the Lord and great shall be your peace.

— God’s angels are watching over you and you have nothing to fear.

He fell asleep listening and entered into a deep, restful sleep. He napped for over two hours and when he woke, he was smiling again and ready to tackle the world.

The word of God is more than the words on a page in your bible. It has the power to renew, to enlighten, to strengthen. It can lift off heavy burdens while lifting you to a place of God-given perspective.

If you’re seeking rest, try speaking the good things of God over your soul and into your being.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NLT)

“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” (Jeremiah 31:25, NIV)
