- I have mixed emotions about Sarah Jakes third release “Dear Mary”. by BTSCelebs on 11/25/2015
BTSCelebs has mixed emotions about Sarah Jakes third release “Dear Mary”. I loved her complete focus on God for Moms’ source of strength. She explains in the book that it will all work out for their good, and that they should focus entirely on Him and do the best they can. The struggles each Mom (or potential Mom) faces differs greatly by their circumstances in life. They shouldn’t compare themselves.
On the other hand, Jakes empathizing with underprivileged families is a little hard to believe because her earthly father,T.D. Jakes, is so wealthy. She may very well have struggled for a time, but many mothers in the world never have assistance of any kind… including nannies.
Overall, the book was an interesting read that makes good points about trusting God, overcoming bad relationships with Moms, having a positive outlook about pregnancy and more. It’s a good go-to book for Mothers and expectant Moms.
- Excellent book for moms! by Molly on 11/18/2015
Dear Mary: Lessons From the Mother of Jesus for the Modern Mom, by Sarah Jakes is a a collection of letters and questions about Motherhood that the author asks Mary, Jesus' mother.
Mary was very young when the Angel Gabriel appeared to her. She was engaged to mary Joseph - a carpenter. She was around 14 - 16 years old when she gave birth to Jesus. Mary was little regarded in society, but she was "highly favored by God" as it is stated in the Book of Luke:
In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, 'Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.'
Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.'
'How will this be,' Mary asked the angel, 'since I am a virgin?'
The angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.'
'I am the Lord's servant,' Mary answered. 'May it be to me as you have said.' Then the angel left her.
I have always found Mary's story to be extremely fascinating and beautiful. It is an amazing story about our Creater; therefore, Mary is a woman to be admired because she was Jesus' Mother. After reading this book, I have found that as a woman and mother, I can look to her for advice in raising my own children - one of them is strong willed. Although we are in a different era than Mary lived, we can relate to her. She might have not faced the same issues or struggles that we face today, but she was a mother just as we are. She might have had sleepless nights. She must have woken up in the middle of the night to check on Baby Jesus. She must have been so worried when they couldn't find 12 year old Jesus - then she found him still in Jerusalem at the temple (Luke 2:41-52). She faced anxiety at that moment. Then Jesus said: "Why did you search for me. Didn't you know I was in my Father's House?" He was in God's hands. He took care of him. That itself is a reminder for us mothers, to to fear and know that God takes care of our children. Mary was special. She gave birth to Jesus - that was special. God choose Mary for a special reason, and there is a special reason we were chosen to give birth to our babies.
The author writes a series of stories to Mary. She shares many example about the challenges that Mary faced. As mothers we are NATURAL GIVERS, and sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. Jakes reminds us to take care of ourselves, because we give a lot. She also reminds us to trust God just as Mary did from the very beginning. I can just picture Mary guiding Jesus, and sharing her faith in God with the ALMIGHTY. I can also see how special their bond was - imagine Jesus' over flowing annointance upon His mother!

- Must Read for Moms by Randi on 10/25/2015
If you're looking for a great book on Christian motherhood, this truly is a great one to choose. Truly, there really is no greater example of what it looks like to be a good Christian mom, to trust God fully with our children than Christ's mom herself. We all know that we should trust God with all things, including our children- but as moms we worry about everything. Mary shows the greatest example of trusting God with your children. She trusted God through her miraculous pregnancy and remained faithful as she watched her son die on the cross...oh, to have that kind of faith! This truly is a great read and one that I highly recommend to every mother.
**I received a copy from the publisher for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.
- This is a must have to read Mary Jesus mother is woven among the pages of these beautiful stories. by aussiegirl on 10/9/2015
Lessons From the Mother of Jesus for the Modern Mom
First let me say Wow I wish I had this book many years ago. There is so much information that you can use in your life and with your children in this beautifully written book.
I love the way she weaves a tapestry of history about the Mother of Jesus throughout the stores. The way Sarah writes this it makes you think of how Mary Jesus Mother at such a young age was so much more mature then what we were and the kids now and days are. How she handles the very life of Jesus and protecting Him and yet letting Him be who He was and letting Him do what God sent Him here to do for us. God defiantly picked a great lady and man, but we all know God knows exactly what He is doing He never makes a mistake.
Sarah really makes you stop and visualizes Jesus Mother differently then what we use to think of her being. A woman who opens her body to receive the gift that she will later have to give to the world how hard this must have been for her. Mary gave self-sacrificing how could you not admire a lady like that? Could a lady of today give so readily to God without question or running away from Him?
Sarah says “Mary defied all odds and fought a fight that no mother will ever be able to match. It is true through Mary who stood for a broken person, the lost person, and you produced salvation through yourself, for yourself and for the world.
Look at it this way one woman one child gave us salvation. I never thought of Mary in that way until I read this book , those are my words okay actually I think God gave me those words to write to you how I felt in my heart from God—but it is so true!!! Sarah said “Mary did you know that you would sacrifice your heart as a Mother so that your Son could give His heart to the world?” Two hearts sacrificed for the world that was totally in sin. How could I ever doubt God’s love for me?
We don’t deserve God’s forgiveness, love or blessings but He forgives us and loves us anyway. What awesome God we serve.
This truly is a must read I am so blessed I got this to review it has really shone a new light on Mary mother of Jesus.
I received this beautiful book free from Bethany House for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review just an honest one. The opinions are entirely my own and no one else’s. Thanks Bethany House for a great book!!!
