Currency of the Heart, Secrets of Sterling Street book 1***** by Loree Lough
Wealthy Harper Sterling gambled away most of his fortune and part of Sterling Manufactory's future profits before he died. Now in order for Shaina, Harper's widow, to have enough money to buy her weekly groceries and other necessary items she has sold everything of value in Sterling Hall and most of her own personal belongings, as well as letting her servants go. A fire destroys Sterling Hall, leaving Shaina not only penniless but now homeless as well.
Sloan Remington, owner of Remington Hotel, Remington Ranch and a silent partner in Sterling Manufactory is determined to keep his promise to Harper to take care of Shaina without her knowing of that promise. As their paths continue to cross, “accidentally”, a relationship soon develops between Sloan and Shaina. When Sloan's housekeeper falls and breaks her leg he asks Shaina to come and help out while her leg heals.
I like the way Loree develops her characters in this story bringing 1800's Denver, Colorado to life for the reader. Of course, like any good story, this story is filled with trials and challenges the characters face and overcome. Secrets are revealed, some mystery, strong faith and love make for a great story. Will certainly read future books in this series.
