After losing everything dear to her, Abby never wants to love again. But a certain cowboy spurs her to wonder if maybe love is worth the risk. Running from a past that haunts her, Abby Knightly is drawn to the homey town of Wishing Springs, Texas, after her favorite advice columnist found love and a home there. Maybe this small town could offer hope and healing and a future for Abby too . . . if she’s brave enough to reach out and take it.

Bo Monahan isn’t interested in the new romantic destination his little town has become—or the women who might be looking at him like he’s their next Mr. Right. Between taking care of his Pops and his growing stirrup business, he isn’t looking for serious romantic commitments. But unexpectedly the young child he never knew about appears on his doorstep and Bo’s world is turned upside down.

This confirmed bachelor might not need a wife, but he sure needs a woman . . . and newcomer Abby Knightly is definitely a woman. When she comes to his rescue to help him navigate fatherhood, he slowly uncovers her own history. And suddenly Bo’s thinking maybe, just maybe, together they can help each other work through the problems of the past to create a future of their own.

Will She Always Say Goodbye to Love? by Tickmenot on 9/26/2015

Welcome to Wishing Springs, Texas, a place brimming over with small town charm, and home of the most eligible bachelors, at least that is what the latest hype says. But a relationship is that last thing newcomer Abby Knightly wants. She has just moved to town, and brought lots of baggage--most of it the kind that can't be seen.

A young widow still recovering from her loss, Abby wants a fresh start. She hopes to move forward from the night a drunk driver caused the death of her husband, and stole her dreams for the future. She has spent the past two years so full of regret and grief that she hasn't been able to function. Moving to Wishing Springs is her last chance to get her life back.

Love is everywhere when you don't want it!

Abby runs into rancher Bo Monahan, literally, as she is coming into town. That chance encounter causes Abby to be with Bo when he has the surprise of his life. A baby is left on his front porch, with a note claiming he is the child's father.

All these events set into motion entanglements that Abby wants no part of. She made this move to help herself heal. Instead finds a baby that is working his way into her heart, and a cowboy who desperately wants her to give him a chance. Abby also discovers her landlord, Rand, is an alcoholic. She finds herself directing all the anger she has for the drunk driver that killed her husband towards Rand.

Counting on a Cowboy also has the side-story of Pebbles and Rand. The two fell hard for each other in high school, but Pebbles pulled back because of Rand's fast lifestyle. After that, Rand left town for decades, but never stopped loving her. Since coming back and finding that Pebbles is a widow, he has been he has been relentlessly pursuing her. However, Pebbles refuses to have a relationship with him because of his alcoholism.

Run, don't walk, from starting a relationship with pain attached.

This is a great story that covers lots of topics but does it well, and keeps the reader's interest. Alcoholism and it's tragic consequences are woven throughout the story. Abby's tragedy is the result of a drunk driver. Rand is a raging alcoholic which is preventing Pebbles from ever considering him as a love interest. This story does not sugar coat the tragedies, and lost opportunities that drinking creates in people's lives. But there is also love, humor and some quirky characters peppering the tale.

This is book two in the Four of Hearts Ranch Romance series, but this story stands on its own. I highly recommend this 5-star book to anyone who enjoys realistic romantic stories told from a Christian viewpoint.

Finding Freedom and Love by Erin on 9/14/2015

My thoughts:

I hadn’t read any of Debra Clopton’s work until I picked up the first book in this series. I have since fallen in love with the Monahan brothers and the women who can tame them. Oh and grandpa. I really love grandpa.

In this book we take a closer look at Bo and learn about him. We also meet Abby who is looking to get away from her conscience and an accident that she blames herself for. Can she get over her past so that she has a future? Can Bo overcome the present that gets thrust on him? Such a great book!

I have to say that Grandpa has been and probably always will be the highlight of these books to me! I work in a nursing home with residents just like Grandpa and I love seeing them get some recognition. Caring for someone like this takes a vast amount of patience and love and the Monahan brothers possess this!

I hope you’ll take the time to read not only this book but the others in the series as well. They’re great reads. They read quickly and keep you entertained as it goes along.

Bo and Abby will touch your heart by Karen {Ting's Mom} on 8/13/2015

I have been looking forward to this book for quite a while, and I was not left disappointed. In this second book of the series we get to know Bo a little better, and also get introduced to Abby. Just like his brother, Bo is a kind-hearted, hard-working cowboy. He faces some serious obstacles that make his true personality shine through. Abby has been through more than any person should have to go through, and it completely builds the character that she is in this book. The two of them becoming friends makes for a highly enjoyable book, and a heart-touching story. I can't wait for the next one!

The Monahan Brothers are Back (and who can resist a cowboy)? by Suzie on 8/6/2015

Abby Knightly is determined to move on from the place she’s been stuck for the past two year. After a column in answer tone of her letters, Maggie Hope (now Monahan) encourages her to do just that—move forward. So when Abby sells her house, packs up her belongings, and moves to Wishing Springs, Texas, her family and friends are concerned she has lost her mind. But Abby can’t stay in the place where she lost so much, more than she’s ever willing to lose again. On her way into Wishing Springs, Abby swerves to miss a cow and is immersed in the world of the Four of Hearts Ranch and Bo Monahan.

Bo is instantly attracted to this stranger but has she come to town because of Maggie’s article about the handsome, available cowboys? When he learns he has a year old son he’d never been told about, his world becomes chaotic. Bo has enough to do with caring for his ailing Pops and his custom stirrup business. He recruits Abby to help him care for the baby.

Most of the townsfolk from Betting on Hope make an appearance in the second installment of the Four of Hearts Romance series. The nosy women from the salon, Doobie and Dooney (the twins), Pebble, Rand, and of course, Tru and Hope, Jarrod, and Pops and Solomon. And who can resist the new additions? Abby and baby Levi. The pair of them make me want to move to Wishing Springs, Texas. The chemistry between Abby and Bo is immediate. Both of them feel lit but can Abby let go of her fear of losing someone in order to risk her heart on love?
