Evelyn Brandt was a talented artist before she became the wife of a Colorado Senetor. The majority of her time was spent volunteering for society functions. Her life fell apart when the FBI informed her that her husband was arrested for embezzlement. It turned out to be a long drawn out scandal that would end in divorce. Throughout that process her friends suggest she use her artistic talent to redesign the city's lampposts. Trevor Whitney is involved in that project and was once close with Evelyn. He let her stay in his guest house and the two became close for a second time. Is a new beginning a possibility? Will there be a change of heart?

- Recapturing one's dreams by Anne on 7/3/2016
Change of Heart, second in the Paper Heart series by Courtney Walsh is a book of broken dreams and second chances…a wonderful fusion of faith and friendship during the chaos and tumult of a life turned on end. Evie, a wealthy politician's wife has her well-ordered world as a trophy wife shattered when her self-serving husband is arrested for embezzling. She is a woman who looks put together but ‘no one would guess that within, she’s falling apart.’ Trevor who has loved Evie since high-school comes to the rescue but with much angst and soul-searching. Can he trust his God to ‘help him navigate the consequences of the choices’ he has made? Secrets abound and hard decisions must be made. The author brings her characters to life very realistically and the story flows well and has a few twists and turns, keeping the reader's interest high. There is a bit of humor throughout as the Valentine Volunteers, a group of Evie’s friends, are back in the matchmaking game. Change of Heart is a story of forgiveness and grace and recognizing that no matter what is going on in our lives, God’s love is constant.

- Valentine Volunteers Return by Suzie on 2/15/2016
I really loved Courtney Walsh’s Paper Hearts and was excited to learn her next book (due on March 1, 2016) is set in the town of Loves Park, Colorado and the return of the quirky Valentine Volunteers.
As the wife of a Colorado senator, Evelyn Brandt has a life others can only envy. But when the FBI shows up while she’s hosting a luncheon, claiming her husband has embezzled from the state, the mirror of her picture-perfect world is shattered. When the rest of Evelyn’s husband’s indiscretions are revealed to the public, Evelyn wonders if she’s the only one who didn’t know about his affairs.
Trevor Whitney let go of his friendship with Evelyn and Christopher Brandt long ago but when Evelyn’s left with nowhere to go, Trevor offers the guest house on his farm. But can he handle having the woman he once loved live right next door? Will his protective gruffness keep his heart safe?
When the Valentine Volunteers force Evelyn and Trevor to work together, Evelyn begins to realize the ways her marriage to Christopher changed her over the years. Instead of becoming the person she hoped to be, she became the person her husband molded her into—someone she doesn’t like. Does she have the strength to shed that persona and become someone who can stand on her own two feet?
In truth, I’m still not sure how I feel about the whole man secretly loving a married woman for the past ten years thing. But the one thing Trevor allows himself to do (in secret) is romantic and sweet. And Evelyn’s transformation is a powerful one when she realizes what other people think of her doesn’t matter.
Add in the nosy Valentine Volunteer women (Gigi, Doris and Ursula) and you’ve got some entertainment thrown into the struggles of our main characters. I think Ursula, the blunt, tell-it-like-it-is, woman is my favorite of the three. While she doesn’t sugar coat anything, she’s truthful and sees beyond the masks people put in place.
Overall, the story moves along nicely—with some predictability in there—but there seemed to be something missing or maybe some kind of disconnect for me. By no means was this a bad book, just so-so, it was a little bit of a disappointment after Paper Hearts. Maybe just a fluke on the author’s part or perhaps simply where I’m at in my life (I’ll admit that as a single woman in her forties, it’s sometimes hard for me to cheer for someone who gets two chances at love when I haven’t gotten my first one), I’ll most definitely give Walsh another try when her next book is released.

On the opening pages of Change of Heart, written by Courtney Walsh, you meet Evelyn Brand as she is preparing for a society luncheon. Evelyn is barely keeping it together in the midst of these catty women in her home when the doorbell begins ringing. Two FBI agents are suddenly standing face-to-face with Evelyn at her front door!
Evelyn cannot believe it when she learns that her husband, the up-and-coming Colorado senator, Christopher Brand, is being arrested for embezzlement! Evelyn does not know which way to turn; however, she is so thankful when Trevor Whitney shows up on the scene to whisk her away. Trevor is a former friend of both Evelyn and Christopher, who has stayed away since they married. Evelyn is not the only one who does not which way to turn, Trevor has also spent years trying to hide the unresolved feelings he has for Evelyn!
When Evelyn learns that her husband has also been involved with other women, both before and throughout their marriage, she must stop and take a hard look at who she presently is and who she wants to become. After Evelyn becomes shunned by the public at large, it seems her only true friends are Trevor and the philanthropic group, the Valentine Volunteers! Between these two sources, Evelyn slowly seems to find herself again as she walks through the rubble her life has become!
Will Evelyn end up following her long-lost dream of becoming a great artist, or will she finally discover the love that Trevor has had for her all of these years? It is interesting to see which road Evelyn will chose, or if God has even bigger plans to bring both to fruition!
