Grace: We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings and premeal p... Read More

But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked, "Do you believe in grace?" who could say no?
In Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine, Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened or softened by grace? God's grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off.
Let's make certain grace gets you.

- There's something truly Amazing about GRACE! by C.Jean on 11/27/2012
“GRACE >> more than we deserve greater than we imagine” By Max Lucado
Max Lucado helps us discover the mystery of “grace.” What is it really and what does it do for us? How do we receive it and utilize it’s power? We sing about it and how amazing it is. We talk about it as a gift. We post it up on the church sign and decorate our homes with placards and poems of it. Do we really understand what grace is?
“Grace is God walking into your world with a sparkle in his eye and an offer that’s hard to resist. ‘Sit still for a bit. I can do wonders with this mess of yours.’”(pg. 74) These are words of hope. Through his wonderful storytelling (like painted pictures) Max Lucado leads you through a deeper understanding the rivers of God’s grace, helping your weary, worn soul find refreshing and restoration.
It is easy to forget about grace. To try to “pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps” and try again. For some of us, though, we have come to the place of a clearer understanding of the old hymn, “It’s grace that’s brought me safe thus far and grace will lead me home.” I thank Max Lucado for reminding us again of our need of God’s grace as we seek to walk in faith and finish well. There is comfort in knowing that it is God and His grace that will take us where we need to go…until we see Him face to face.
For the “comfort factor” on this book, I give it 5/5 stars. *****

- Captivating! by Smiling Sally on 9/7/2012
I once heard Max Lucado speak and quickly became a fan. His straightforward ability caused me to sit still so as to not miss a bit of his important message. He writes the same way he talks. His books read as if he is speaking directly to the reader.
Each chapter contains Bible verses, Bible stories, and anecdotes from life. That alone makes the book worthwhile; however, Lucado goes to the next level--the Reader's Guide.
A unique feature about Grace is the Reader's Guide section. More than a list of questions, each chapter is thoroughly covered. There is a guide for chapter one, chapter two, etc. making the book a useful tool for personal or small group Bible study. Scripture is reviewed, life-changing questions are listed, a prayer is included, and life applications are given. This comprehensive section allows the reader to more deeply study and apply the biblical truths. I recommend this book!
