As a kid I remember reading the Berenstain Bear books all the time. When I was told there's a cookbook coming out, I was super excited because I knew my kids would love it, as they've become a fan of BB as well!
I love this cookbook because the recipes are easy enough for both my 3 year old and my 8 year old to do together. They are recipes that are practical for my family-- we're not super-duper fancy by any means.
I love that this book incorporates the family values that all of their books instill, promoting family togetherness. The illustration is beautiful throughout and appealing to all eyes, as to keep the kids interested in the task at hand. I love that the photography appeals to all eyes-- sometimes super-good photography of food can intimidate the reader into thinking the recipe is too hard to create (IMHO), so it's nice to see these recipes shown in a relatable way.
We made the Honey Hunt cookies, which is a Cub Favorite in the book. Holy moly, they were delicious! I have never tasted a cookie that had such a honey flavor. Let's just say the cookies were gone in a 24 hour period.
I was given this book as a review and I took some shots of the cookies and published them on my blog. If you want to see how they turned out compared to the recipe-- head on over to the post. Because of this recipe, we are excited to try even more recipes in this Berenstain Bears Country Cookbook!
- Christian Shelf-Esteem's review of The Berenstain Bears' Country Cookbook by Amanda on 3/14/2015
We live in a fast-pace, fast-food culture that where cooking, an important life skill, is not being passed down to the next generation. I think this is a shame because so many lessons can be taught in the kitchen such as meal planning, nutrition, mathematic conversions, safe food handling, and the importance of following directions. Also, time in the kitchen provides and excellent opportunity for us to have meaningful conversations with our kids, to build their self-confidence, and make memories that last a lifetime.
Over the past few weeks it has been a fun challenge for our children to create meals using The Berenstain Bears’ Country Cookbook. As soon as the book arrived it was met with great excitement! Our kids selected recipes that they wanted to try based on the full-page photographs. Once they had chosen their favorites, we had them take inventory of the staples that we had on hand and decide which items we would need to purchase from the grocery store. This process provided an opportunity to discuss nutritional merits of each recipe and personal taste preferences.
The ingredient lists and the steps to accomplish each dish are clearly stated and easy to follow. Some recipes have as few as 2 steps while one has 14 — allowing children to start slow and work up to more difficult recipes. With adult supervision, most of the preparation can be done by little cubs. A few recipes use prepared foods like refrigerated biscuits or canned soups (probably to minimize the ingredients and steps needed to prepare the dishes), but I would say a large majority use fresh ingredients.
The Berenstain Bears’ Country Cookbook is well suited for our elementary aged children (6 & 9 years old). Published with children ages 4-8 in mind, I’m convinced bear lovers and aspiring chefs up into their tweens would enjoy preparing these dishes. The fact that the cookbook is full-color, delightful illustrated, and reasonably prices makes it a great gift option for children’s birthday parties. Depending on your budget, it could be given alone or as part of a kitchen themed gift set. Given all of it’s attributes I award The Berenstain Bears’ Country Cookbook 5/5 stars.

- Beautiful book with pictures! by Patty H. on 2/28/2015
The Berenstain Bears Country Cookbook is an absolutely beautiful cookbook for families to share. Each child friendly recipe is simply written so that families can participate together in creating the recipes. There are also beautiful photographs of each recipe that accompanies them.
I was very impressed when I opened the book and skimmed through the pages. The recipes are broken down into 4 categories. They include breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert & snacks. Children will love making these recipes with their family. Each recipe has a fun name that children will like as well. Names like Bear-y Good Oatmeal and Tasty Toboggans.
I loved that there was a page devoted to grace before meals included within the book. In between each category is a short story featuring the Berenstain Bears.
This book would make a wonderful addition to any recipe collection and will surely be a favorite for any little cook.
