Faith, Family, Fellowship, Forgiveness and Freedom by Kelly on 12/3/2015

Everyone knows the Robertson's - they rose to fame on their hit reality show "Duck Dynasty," but now are perhaps just as famous for their outspoken, unapologetic faith. Even when their words about faith are controversial - and they almost always are - they don't back down from telling everyone who'll listen about Jesus.

We're big duck fans in my house. My husband hunts, my 3-year-old son can't wait to hunt, and while I'm not an outdoorsy girl myself, I respect the Robertson family and what they stand for - and I think they're pretty darn funny (especially Uncle Si.)

The Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible is a New King James Version edition with commentary written by Phil and Al Robertson. For those who may not be as familiar with the Robertson clan, Phil is the patriarch of the family, the Duck Commander himself, who has built a family business into a dynasty, if you will, manufacturing and selling duck calls. Phil left a promising career in professional football to pursue his dream, at the same time that God was pursuing him. He turned his life over to the Lord in the mid-1970's and has been passionate about seeing others come to saving faith ever since.

Al Robertson is known as the preacher and the only beardless Robertson man. Al recently returned to the family business after serving in full-time ministry for over 25 years.

Together the two Robertson men compiled mamy devotionals to include in this Signature Series bible published last year by Thomas Nelson.

This edition contains many "extras," such as supplementary scripture references in what they call "On the Hunt," which is basically a "digging deeper" segment following a devotional from Phil or Al, which they call "Set Your Sights."

This NKJV edition is perfect for the outdoorsman (or woman) in your life who wants to grow in their relationship with Christ while receiving practical encouragement.

So, get on over to Family Christian and pick one up, Jack. You'll be HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY you did.

How about a new Bible?

"You've already got one," you say, "and aren't they all alike anyway?"

Actually, no, not all Bibles are alike. Today, there are many translations to choose from, and within them, a variety of types. Reading more than one kind of Bible can make God's Word even more enlightening, and add a richer dimension to scripture. This one, in particular, has some things that no other edition contains--input from Phil and Al Robertson. Interspersed throughout both the Old and New Testaments are 104 commentaries, 52 written by each man.

Many may be familiar with Phil and Al Robertson from the television show, "Duck Dynasty". Al is Phil's oldest child, the only son without a beard. Fans of the program may not realize that Phil has a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and a Master's Degree in Education. Al is an ordained minister, and has been in Christian ministry for more than 25 years. Phil gave up a life of drugs, alcohol and women when he had a life-changing experience with Jesus Christ in the 1970s.

Values to live by.

The Robertson family strives to live by five core values: faith, family, fellowship, forgiveness and freedom. Their thoughts and writings all reflect those standards, and they have divided their commentaries into those five subjects. Phil and Al named their essays "Set Your Sights," and there is a list of all of them in the front of the Bible which is called "52 Days". They suggest reading one from the list each week. They even include a handy check box by each one so you can keep track of the ones read.

Besides including Phil or Al's thoughts in each article, scriptures are referenced and specific page numbers are given to turn to for more on the subject. Each essay closes with a section called "On the Hunt" which has different key points to look for in the Bible, or to think about further.

There are 30 "Life Changers," 15 articles written by each man in the front of the Bible. These contain true stories of lives that have been completely changed by the power of God. There is also a great welcome letter from Phil and Al.

Both men demonstrate they are excellent writers, and it is apparent they put a lot of work and thought into all the articles. Their points of view are really eye opening and very interesting. Their reflections add a lot to the Biblical text, similar to the experience of listening to a talented pastor preach an interesting sermon on a text from scripture. Yet their writing is done in a very conversational tone, so it is not hard to understand. In fact, one feels as if they were having a one on one talk with Phil or Al when reading their words.

The Bible itself is well-made and hard backed. It is the complete New King James Version, and is part of the Signature Series from Thomas Nelson. The font is a normal size, with good subject headings and the beginning of each book is clearly marked. References are given at the bottom of each page. There is a topical index in the back, and a free download with Bible study tools. Phil and Al's encouraging and entertaining commentaries add a lot to this 5-star Bible. It will make you happy, happy, happy--and I highly recommend it.

I never heard of the Duck family hum guess it soul be because I never hunted ducks or any kind of animal nor did my Dad because my Dad taught us that you don't hurt animals ok my Dad did hunt, but us girls cried so hard when Dad brought home a deer he shot and killed that he never went hunting again with my Uncles. We couldn't stand the sight of an animal being hurt and I am still that way. They had a TV show really again no hunter so I wouldn't have watched it.

I never heard of the Robertson's until they were on TV because of "a same sex marriage" that they were defending their religion that in the eyes of God that is wrong and I loved the fact they didn't back down to the media which the media love to intimidate people and I am glad that the media couldn't do that to the Robertson family. They stood their ground and that minute I became a fan of theirs. I loved them dearly and they gained my respect for what they did. Although I have friends and my husband has family that has same sex marriage ( I never heard of any in my family). I love them dearly even though I don't believe their ways, it doesn't mean that I don't love them as people and I am sure they don't believe my ways that's ok I am not judge God is and I am glad he takes that responsibility and doesn't have us be judge.

OK now on with the Duck Bible--- I must say the Bible intrigued me. I also have to admit, I wasn't sure about the Bible, but my curiosity got the best of me so much that I had to order it to review it for Thomas Nelson. I couldn't wait to see what these back woods breaded men as they looked to me could possibly have to say that I haven't found in my other Bibles. So like always the minute it hit my door step I immediately had to open it and dig into reading this Bible. I am that way with all my bibles I order, I can't wait to see what is new to help me understand my Savior a little better.

I fell in love with these Robertson people when I started reading "Set Your sights" They speak in plain English ok as we'd call it "Hill Billy talk" ha ha that's ok Aunt comes from W. VA. she's as Hill Billy as they came. I could understand the messages they were sending to me. I loved John The Baptist. But page 7 Grace By Al really hit me between the eyes. Al made me look at Grace through a different set of eyes.
Their insight is great plain talk and you can relate to them.

As I kept reading this Bible I grew to love that bearded scruffy guy Phil. Don't judge a book by it's cover kind of thing here.

The stories they tell of their own heart aches and troubles let's you know that you are no alone in this big bad world.

I loved "The Lifechangers" They are by the day so you don't have to read it all in one sitting. These are great to read. This is a few of what you'll find in the back of the Bible: Miracles of Jesus, The A B C's of Salvation, Ministry of Jesus are just a few plus where to find them in this Beautiful Bible.
I could go on and on about this Bible but hey buy your copy and enjoy it, you'll be glad you did.

I received this beautiful Bible free from Thomas Nelson Book look bloggers for an honest review. I was not require to give a positive review just an honest one. The opinions I have expressed are entirely my own and no one else's.
