Ill start by saying that I did not finish this book. I tried to, but I could not force myself to waste anymore time finishing The Princess Within. This book is written for teens I am 21 years old and felt like I was close enough to the age range to really give this book a review from the perspective of a younger girl.
The book jumps from topic to topic without much cohesion or flow-through. I think this book could be more helpful to some people but it definitely wasn't written for a more sheltered girl. I believe Serina Ann James wrote this book for teens who have messed up relationships and boyfriends.

This book was written for teenage girls to help them cope with different dilemmas they might face in today's world. She especially focuses on a girl's self-esteem, and temptations that could be real pitfalls in a girl's life. At the beginning of each chapter, portions of the story of Cinderella are used to set the theme for the point being discussed. There are also some song recommendations for the reader to listen to that go along with the subject line. A section called, "My Story," is included that has a true account from someone who has experienced this issue. The author combines all of this with the word of God and speaks about each subject with candor, knowledge and good ideas.
The author is very up-to-date with current trends and topics that face today's teenage girls--including some really dangerous situations that exist. The book is interesting, and would not be difficult for a teenager to read. She really makes the reader think by including surveys, often asking the audience questions and querying "what's your story" in different situations. Mrs. Jakes gives really good advice about what not to do, but also, what to do if a teenager messes up. The author assures the girls that it is never too late to turn their lives around, and that if they include God in their lives, so much the better. God will never turn His back on them, no matter what they have done or experienced.
This book was uplifting, and really wants to get teenage girls to make the right choices, have good self-esteem and include Jesus in their lives. Mrs. Jakes doesn't shy away from hard topics. I recommend this 5-star book to teenagers or their parents. The author has five adult children, as well as grandchildren. She is also the wife of Bishop T.D. Jakes of the Potter's House in Dallas, Texas.

- Great for Christian Teens! by Amy on 7/17/2014
This book is setup to talk to teenage girls about….well being teenage girls. It covers all the hot points that young girls struggle with in life and shows how accepting God into your life can make you stronger and never alone. Everyone is beautiful in God’s eyes, whether you’ve done right or wrong, popular or not.
This book has an interesting setup. It has a fictional fairy tale story, much like Cinderella. It has Serita’s real life stories she’s experienced in relation to each chapters topic, quizzes to better understand yourself, scripture relating to the topic and God’s answer to the situation, plus a music playlist for each chapter!
This book is wonderful, I wish there had been a book like this when I was a teenager. Even though I’m through that phase of life I still clearly remember how hard it was and had all of these situations come up one way or another!
I love how it covers a wide array of topics: feeling left out, fitting in, loving your family (blended families especially), sex-saying no, things to remember if you decide to say yes (pregnancy, STD’s, etc.), difference between being friendly and flirting; giving the wrong impression.
All these topics and many more are centered around God, His forgiveness if you do wrong, being there for you if you are lonely, to give you strength to make the right decision and most importantly accepting you for who you are.
This book can serve a lot of purpose. A girl could use it on her own like a diary for inner growth and reflection, read it with your mom or other older female in your life, they’ve been there and can help you relate to somethings maybe you don’t understand yet, or as a group study through church or other youth organizations.
Overall this book is very well written and extremely relatable. I would recommend this book to anyone with a current or future teenager, in fact already have! It’s currently available at amazon.com and other book sites.
Disclaimer: I was given this book from Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
