- Strong enough to stand alone in the series. by Amanda on 11/21/2014
In Silenced, Dani Pettrey captures the essence of Alaskan life and rolls it into a captivating and suspenseful whodunit. New readers, like myself, will fall in love with the five siblings of the McKenna family. This particular novel focuses on the adventurous and often stubbornly independent, Kayden McKenna.
During an early morning climb, Kayden and her sister Piper stumble upon a fallen climber. When foul play is suspected, Kayden’s expertise in the sport makes her an invaluable asset to the investigation. The attraction between Kayden and the lead investigator, Jake Cavanagh, is undeniable. Before either can act upon those feelings, they must overcome insecurities that play a major role in the plot as well as the faith lessons of the book.
Without reading the previous three books in the Alaskan Courage Series, I can attest to the stand alone quality of this title. At several points throughout the book, allusions are made to prior hardships experienced by Jake and the McKenna family. Fortunately, over the course of the novel I feel that most of what I may have missed was revealed as the characters themselves recounted events of the past.
The author made it difficult to decide which I liked more - the twists and turns of the plot or the magnetism between Kayden and Jake. Either way, as a romantic suspense novel I give Silenced 5/5 stars and I plan to add the other books in the Alaskan Courage series to my tbr pile.

- This is a Dani Pettrey book, need I say more? by J. Augustine on 7/6/2014
This is a Dani Pettrey book, need I say more? OK, so for this actually to be a review I DO have say at least a little more. I LOVE suspense, got hooked years ago on mystery and suspense and have devoured the genre since. I read the first book in the Alaskan Courage series last year and have enjoyed each succeeding title.
Silenced has everything it takes to make a good suspense story. One of my favorite parts of reading mystery/suspense is trying to figure out who-done-it but Dani Pettrey had me really stumped on this one, I totally did not see it coming.
Another great story from a wonderful author, Silenced will grab your attention and hold it whether you are looking for romance, suspense, or the great outdoors, it has them all and then some.
Dani Pettrey has a confirmed fan in me and I will be eagerly awaiting, not only the final book in the series, but also any future books.

- Suspense that will have you sitting on the edge... by ToriPeterson on 6/22/2014
I LOVE this book. It was filled with so much suspense that I just didn't want to put it down. From the beginning to the end I was at the edge of my seat!
I was captured by this book. There is definitely suspense from beginning to end.
The author draws you into her novel and the words easily flow and hold you. Everything is so very well explained, and all scenes are created in just a way as if you feel as if you are right there alongside the characters!
What I loved most about this book was the twist and turns in suspense! I don't want to give too much away, but I will say that this book doesn't leave you wanting for more mystery and suspense. I literally found myself on the edge of my seat, sitting straight up in bed, holding my breath, and chewing on my lip at times I was so nervous and captured!
I also found myself frustrated while reading this book mainly because Kayden and Jake each in their own way was just so stubborn! I wanted to shake them and give them a good talking to. They are each attracted to each other, but neither will act on their feelings. It is so frustrating to see romance and sparks between two characters only for them not to act on it because of their own ridiculous reasons. Jake knows that Kayden is emotionally unavailable and believes she has no interest in him. Because of this and his past he fears telling her how he really feels will push her away so he keeps it to himself.
Kayden will simply not allow herself to feel. Terrified because of the loss of her parents due to health reasons she doesn't want to feel that type of pain again nor does she want to inflict that kind of pain on anyone. Despite the fact she is giving up love and personal happiness she is determined to go it alone and live the healthiest lifestyle she can.
Another wonderful aspect of this book is the closeness of the McKenna siblings and friends. They all hold faith in God and stick together in unimaginable ways. I fell in love with all of them in my own way. And to see God so strong in not just a few but many of the characters lives was so refreshing. Not to mention all the characters have such a strong personality each their own! No character melts into the next, and each is interestingly unique. I can't wait to go back and read the other books in this series to find out about more of the characters, and I especially can't wait to read the next book after this one. I'm hoping it tells more on Reef and Kayden and Jake. I was definitely left wanting more.
I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more information on Conrad Humphries death. I was really wanting more information on that. I can't go into specific details on that because I don't want to spoil anything.
Even though this is Book 4 in the Alaskan Courage series it does well as a stand alone book. All the characters are present, but this is more of Kayden and Jake's story. You get snippets of the other characters which makes you want to go back and read the other books dealing with their individual stories. Each of the novels are centered around suspense so you know they are all going to be page turners.
I urge you to give this book a read. Go out and get it and read it as fast as you can! :)

- Mountain Mystery by tickmenot on 6/12/2014
Set in Alaska, this is the fourth story in the Alaskan Courage Series about the McKenna family. This book opens with the death of a climber that turns out to be murder. Kayden McKenna and Jake Westin team together to solve it. As the mystery concludes, another story-line comes into focus that includes a dangerous stalker. Discovering the identity of the stalker is before someone is killed and time runs out, is the subject of the rest of the book.
A lot of characters from past books appear so that readers of the series can catch up, and get some clues about future books. This story can stand on its own, but I think it would be more enjoyable for the reader if other books in the series were read first.
I have read every volume in this series, and have liked most of them. The excellent first book is a tough act to follow. In this one, I really didn’t like the two story-lines. The first part of the volume, which focuses on the murder investigation, seemed to go over the same ground repeatedly. Then when the murderer is discovered, it seemed so out of left-field that I thought something else would come along that would uncover the “real murderer”–but that didn’t happen. The murder story-line was not wrapped up well, but just chopped off.
Next, a side story moved in to center stage. I didn’t think the tale transitioned well, and the story really fell apart for me there. I did not like the stalker part of the story, it was really dark, evil and uncomfortable to read.
I really appreciate that this is a clean story, and written from a Christian point of view. I also liked getting “inside” the head of Reef, the youngest male in the McKenna Family. It is pretty obvious, though, that his story will be the next book in the series. I would really like to see a return of the surprise twists and turns to the McKenna stories contained in the first book. I wish I could rate this book higher than 4-stars.

- A really page turn and hang on it keeps you wondering. by aussiegirl on 5/28/2014
This is the 4 th book in the Alaskan Courage. They can stand alone or if you have them all they start where they end from the other book. I only have two the four.
This beautiful story will grab you and keep you hanging on for dear life. Each turn of the page adds to the excitement, thrill, love and hate oh hidden secrets that it holds on each page.
The twist and turns will have you excited to see what journey the pages hold for you to discover or will there be a new character suddenly appear out of no where to lead you to some place unexpected.
Jake is a gentleman. Kayden doesn't trust. What is in store for these two. kayden's brothers and sister all have found the love of their life, except Kayden and Reef, she has her heart guarded with a fortress around it and guarded tight. Reef on the other hand is a love em leave em type of guy.
Kayden found a dead man on one of her climbs where will the clues lead her and who will help her with what she finds.
I recommend this book highly because it is full of action packed at it best. I could sit and read it again. You won't want to put the book down so grab a comfortable chair something to drink and plan to spend the day relaxing and reading.
I received this great, breath taking book free from Bethany House for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review just an honest one. The opinions I have expressed are entirely my own.
