Michael is not thrilled about his family's move to New Hope, a small, close-knit southern town. He is even less enthused about joining the town's high school basketball team, especially when he begins to bump heads with the team's star player, Lucas.
Lucas is fiercely loyal to the memory of his brother Chase - the victim of a suicide that shook the entire town to its core. To Lucas, Michael is reaping the benefits of everything Chase left behind - an insult he refuses to accept - while Jasmine, Chase's longtime girlfriend, finds herself changed by a chance meeting with Michael. Michael's faith is tested as he endures confrontations with Lucas on and off the basketball court and through his growing fascination with Jasmine.
Raw and emotional, New Hope captures the modern teenage experience, touching on peer pressure, alcohol, sex, suicide, relationships and the need for acceptance and God's love.

- Excellent-watch again and again by Bethany on 10/25/2015
New Hope is a movie that I would highly recommend for adults and kids 16 and up. It is very professionally done and truly tells a powerful story. I will be watching this movie again and again.
I appreciate how the Evans family exhibits a model of Christian parenting and the father is not made into a joke or made to look foolish, he leads the family. There are several times the mother is concerned and goes to the father. He listens to her concerns and guides his family always pointing to God.
Mike Evans is an example of a Godly, young man navigating difficult waters. His choices throughout exhibit a thoughtful character and level head. Although he is faced with adversity on every side, and sometime comes close to losing his cool, his encouragement and grace for those around him are the very things that lead many to a belief in Christ.
I appreciate that scripture was used throughout in times when strength is needed, but also in everyday conversations. My husband also said he thought the Baptism picture was as it should be.
Parents should be aware that there are scenes with teenagers disrespecting their parents, drinking alcohol, kissing, and there is a proposition for sexual relations made. I do feel that they are almost all handled in a way that honors the Lord and for mature teens, this would provide opportunities for positive discussion. I’m impressed by how these issues were dealt with and not completely avoided.
