What has become of the local neighborhood churches of the seventies and eighties? Back in those decades, churches were packed out every Sunday morning. Pastors preached sin and the need for forgiveness of sin. People flocked to the altar, often with tears streaming down their cheeks, in an effort to make things right with God as they accepted His Son into their lives and repented of their sins. Today, one is hard-pressed to find such a scenario in most of our houses of worship. Instead, many churches are half-empty on any given Sunday morning. The sermons present God as a loving Father, omitting the fact that He is also the Judge of those who fail to accept His Son as their Lord and Savior. The preaching of the Word has been watered down and forced to take a backseat to a "seeker sensitive" audience who is looking for a church that offers interesting programs for adults and children alike, social activities, and a free meal whenever the doors of the church are opened. Cardboard Christians presents an account of the changes which have occurred over the past thirty years to bring about this unfortunate situation.
