- UPLIFTING AND INSPIRING! by NARITA on 11/30/2015
The power of prayer has such a far reaching influence, yet it is one of the most overlooked resources in a Christian’s life. How many times have you felt the prompting to pray for a person or situation and ignore it? What blessing or need went unfulfilled because you didn’t? This book will certainly make you think about those times and being obedient to urging of the Holy Spirit.
I found this book very encouraging, as it reminded me once again of how God is always watching over and caring for us. I found it inspiring and exciting to see how He uses our prayers to bring about wonderful and amazing events. These are true stories of how the Lord guided others to pray unbeknownst to them how important that prayer was to the care and protection of the person He brought to mind.
I am remembered of one such time in my life. My husband was 37 and had suffered a heart attack. They were bypassing 3 bypasses he had done at 25. The surgery was long and a large number of people were in the waiting room with me. Everyone was visiting. Suddenly I had a powerful need to pray for him. I asked everyone to join me. I looked at the clock to see what time it was. Finally the doctor came out and told me my husband was fine and the outcome was far better than he had expected. Then he said, “Oh, there was one thing. When we took him off of the heart lung machine and shocked his heart, it wouldn’t start. We tried 3 times and were very worried, then the 3rd time it started.” I asked him what time that happened. And the time he shared was the exact time I had been felt the overpowering need to pray for him.
This book is such a blessing. It made me happy to read the stories of God’s miraculous provision, and to always remember He does the same for me.
I received a copy of this book free from Revell Publications. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
- More Than a Feeling by Tickmenot on 11/25/2015
Ever have someone suddenly come to mind? More specifically, did you get the urge to pray for that person? Or have you desperately called out to God for help in a dire situation, and seemingly out of nowhere, your prayer was answered? This fascinating book contains an abundance of true stories about circumstances just like that.
Consider the story of a pastor whose small plane runs out of fuel, and there is no place to land, there is nothing but trees, homes and utility wires. He is sure he will crash. Suddenly, a freshly plowed field appears, and he lands uninjured in the soft dirt. Later, one of his parishioners tell him she felt an overwhelming urge to pray for him on a particular day at a certain time, which she does. They are both overwhelmed to discover that was the exact time he was about to crash his airplane, but then miraculously found the plowed field.
Or contemplate the time when Glenda and Marsha were out in the freezing cold hoping to talk to someone about the good news of Jesus. They were thinking of turning back when they saw a lone woman, Sondra, at a bus stop. Although intimidated by the way she stared at them, the girls asked Sondra if they could talk to her about God. After some conversation, Sondra became a follower of Christ. She then asked Glenda and Marsha how they knew where to find her. Sondra said she was desperate, at the end of her rope, and had asked God that if He was real, to send someone to talk to her about Him. That is exactly when Glenda and Marsha walked up to her in the freezing cold.
This book is full of amazing stories that highlight God's perfect timing. Often He has organized many seemingly random events to fit together perfectly to bring about the answer to a prayer.
Called to Pray is wonderfully uplifting and encouraging. The power of prayer is demonstrated throughout this volume. God's love for us is clearly shown, along with how much He cares about every aspect of our lives. All of the stories are just a few pages long, so the entire volume can be read at once, or a little bit at a time. Fair warning must be given, however, because these accounts are so interesting, it is hard to stop after just one. I really liked this 5-star book, and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys true stories, or wants to know more about the power of prayer.
