Mallory takes a leap of faith and begins a sweet, mishap-filled journey into ranch living, Moses Lake society, and a marriage that at times reminds her of the mail-order-bride stories. This book was absolutely amazing, from page one I didn't want to put it down, keeps you in suspense. Although I thought the ending could've been a little different Firefly Island is a great read and totally worth $14.99.
- Unexpected Circumstances! by Nancee on 4/8/13
Mallory Hale has experienced adventure in her life, but love at first sight propels her into a whirlwind romance with Daniel Everson and his 4-year-old son. Leaving her home and family in Washington, DC to live on a remote ranch in Moses Lake, Texas, Mallory questions her sanity. Daniel's boss, Jack West, has a questionable past with rumors of murder. Numerous questions and fears arise regarding their safety in this new and remote location. Life will never be the same for the Everson family as they are plummeted into a dramatically changing lifestyle. As Daniel spends long hours with his new employer Mallory finds herself isolated and resentful. She develops a friendship with a rather eccentric character who introduces her to some rather bizarre experiences. Suspense heightens as events create serious concerns about what might be occuring on Firefly Island where unexplained lights glow in the dark of night. Mallory's dreams turn into nightmares as mysterious events outweigh any sense of normalcy for this young family.
Firefly Island is filled with adventure, romance, and suspense. There are numerous unexpected events and colorful characters in this story of uncertainty and radical changes regarding not only physical location, but changes in character. Mallory is suddenly a wife and mother to a 4-year-old son, which throws her off balance but she has a strong constitution and ability to change with the situations. Questioning whether her life is in God's hands and the events surrounding her are just a part of a larger plan, Mallory's character evolves into a more purposeful existence. Acceptance and resolution are important aspects in this story.
Lisa Wingate is a new author to me, and I'm impressed with her talents as an author. I will definitely read the prequels to "Firefly Island." I found this suspense-filled, delightful story to be highly entertaining, and found it difficult to put down. The story moved swiftly and contained unexpected events that kept me up late at night! I highly recommend this author and "Firefly Island." if you're interested in a thrill ride in remote Moses Lake, Texas.

- Sweet, Mishap-Fllled Journey by Maureen on 3/11/13
Mallory Hale, has led a very exciting and glamorous life as a Congressional staffer. She has traveled, and is enjoying what she is doing, and at 34 has not found Mr right. That is until he is literally dumped in her lap, well, she drops all her stack of papers and Daniel Everson helps pick the up. She is Smitten, in one meeting!
When Daniels life is suddenly changed with a new job offer in Texas...they know they are meant for each other, and decide to marry and make a family of three. Daniel has a precocious 3 1/3 year old son, Nick.
Nick is so adorable, and you will fall in love with him. Daniels boss Jack West, leaves Mallory with uneasy feelings. Things are very different at Moses Lake TX...almost sounded like a resort...not! Wait until you see the house and experience living in it with them.
There are other loveable characters in this book, and they seem to be there for those in need, even when they disagree. Enjoy your visits at the Waterbird Cafe, and Mallory's experience as a Mother of a little boy! What starts out as a love story, ends up being also a big mystery!
I found this book to be a very quick read, and I just had to find out what happens next.
I received this book through the Litfuse Blog Tours Program, and was not required to give a positive review.
- Inspiring, gentle read with great mystery and romance by Sherry on 1/24/13
Part of the Moses Lake 'series', Firefly Island is even better than the others, I say. There is a fast-developing romance and then a page-turning adventure where Mallory and Daniel move to a remote ranch. While Daniel struggles with a whole different kind of job and a difficult boss, Mallory struggles with the joys and challenges of step parenting, political issues, the mysterious lights on the nearby island, rumors about the disappearance of the owner's wife and son, and making the ranch house habitable. She finds friendship among neighbors and within the small Moses Lake community and she discovers a whole new world at her computer keyboard. It's something like a mail-order bride of olden days, but in a fast-paced modern world. This one is bound to be an award winner and there is a lot of meat for book club discussion (questions in the back of the book.)
