Details
Heather Hampton returns to Moses Lake, Texas, to help facilitate the sale of a family farm as part of a planned industrial plant that will provide the area with much-needed jobs. Heather's future fiance has brokered the deal, and Heather is in line to do her first large-scale architectural design--if the deal goes through.
But the currents of Moses Lake have a way of taking visitors on unexpected journeys. What was intended to be a quick trip suddenly morphs into Valentine's week--with Blaine Underhill, the handsome banker who just happens to be opposing Heather's project. Spending the holiday in an ex-funeral parlor seems like a nightmare, but Heather slowly finds herself being drawn into the area's history, hope, and heart.

Rating What I enjoy most in the books written by Lisa Wingate is the way she can make them connect to your life. In Blue Moon Bay we are connected to her characters in many ways - challenges when dealing with family members, challenges with events from our youth, challenges with work, friends, or finding our place in the world. More than once as I read the book I had to stop and think about a point that was being made about love or relationships and consider how I might take that to heart in my own life. She may not have a lot of plot lines like popular crime novels or thrillers, but her plot lines go deep and strike a chord in her reader. When I am still thinking about a point made in a book long after I've put it down, you know that book has made a difference. I encourage everyone to read Blue Moon Bay - it's interesting, fun, poignant, and has a great twist to the ending.

Rating This was a cozy mystery with a hint of romance. Strong heroine, character growth, beautiful scenery descriptions, and an interesting plot— it contained all the ingredients for a book that captures my attention. It had been awhile since I’d read fiction, so I really enjoyed being swept into a story as well as the mind and heart of the main character, Heather. It’s somewhat of a predictable plot— a city girl going home to a tiny town in Texas to sell her family’s home. Upon arrival, she realizes there are not only barriers to the sale but also barriers to making peace with her eccentric family and the townspeople. Memories of her awkward and insecure time as a teenager there surface and push her to work through relationships as well as heart struggles. I love the last few sentences in the last chapter (don’t worry! No spoilers!): "Our lives come as a blank canvas only because we cannot see as He sees. Before we can conceive our stories, He has watched them in His mind’s eye, and not the stroke of a pen happens at random. Above the book, the Architect watches with a broader eye, a greater plan. He knows what is to be written on every page."
