  • How to Write a Christian Thank You Card in 5 Simple Steps

In a world where texts, tweets and emojis dominate our interactions, a handwritten thank you note goes a long way. Maybe a neighbor went out of their way to run an errand for you, maybe you received a thoughtful gift in the mail or maybe you want to express your gratitude to a close friend. Whatever the case may be, rediscover the art of a thank you card in five simple steps.

Lead With Gratitude Begin by thanking the recipient for their thoughtfulness. Don’t feel pressured to come up with an elaborate greeting. Something as simple as “thank you so much for the gift” or “I appreciate your time” is all it takes.

Spell Out Specifics Include details about what you are grateful for. If you received a gift, let them know how you’ve used it. If you got a gift card, tell them what you’re planning to buy. If someone blessed you with a comforting shoulder during a difficult time, put into words how it made you feel.

Include a Bible Verse There are several scriptures about thanks and gratitude. Let the recipient know what a blessing they are by including a meaningful Bible verse in your note. Ephesians 1:16 NIV is a great place to start: I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.

Make It Meaningful Mention something going on in their life, either exciting or challenging, and let them know you are thinking about and praying for them. This extra step lets them know you value the relationship and are tuned into their needs and feelings.

Reaffirm Your Thanks While it may seem repetitive, end by reiterating your thankfulness. Make sure to change up how you phrase it though. Appreciation, gratitude and gratefulness are just a few other ways to say thank you.

While your words are what truly count, it doesn’t hurt to write them in a beautifully crafted card. Browse Christian cards for every occasion or stop by a store near you and experience our full selection of greeting cards that show your friends and family just how much you care.

What personal touches do you add to your thank you cards?

  • Be The Gift God Created YOU To Be

    Mmichele Dudley NOVEMBER 27, 2015

Be The Gift God Created YOU To Be MICHELE DUDLEY

"A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other" 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NLT)

When I cleaned out my messy closet recently, I found a beautiful gift a friend had given me many months ago.

I remember when she gave me the gift — I was thrilled! It made me feel so special and loved that she purchased it with me in mind.

Yet somehow in the busyness of life, the gift became buried underneath "stuff," hidden and unused. I can’t imagine how disappointed my friend would be if she knew I hadn’t continued to treasure it.

It made me pause and think about the gifts that the Ultimate Gift Giver has given each of us … and whether or not we’re using them.

1 Corinthians 12:7 says, "A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other" (NLT).

I envision God, with His infinite creativity, pouring over each of us as He formed us, selecting unique abilities and spiritual gifts to prepare us for the work that He has called us to do (Ephesians 2:10). And not for our own good, but for His good and the good of His people.

It’s our job to steward these gifts. We must prayerfully consider what they are and how we can use them to serve a world in desperate need — this is our purpose, our calling.

At Fashion & Compassion, I work with women who are overcoming exploitation, addiction, war/conflict, domestic abuse and incarceration in the U.S. and around the world. Because of their life circumstances, many of these women have never considered God’s purpose for their life.

For example, Carrie came to us three years ago, emotionally beaten down after 30 years in an abusive marriage. She was essentially locked in her home — with her seven children — and constantly told she was "stupid" and "useless" by her husband.

When Carrie came to Fashion & Compassion, she was frightened and scarred, afraid she couldn’t do anything right. Through love, encouragement and prayer, Carrie now sees that God gifted her with a HUGE heart of compassion for suffering women and an incredible artistic gift.

As our jewelry project manager, Carrie loves and ministers to women with a genuine empathy, compassion and peace that can only come from the healing and restoration she has received from Christ. She patiently teaches and encourages other vulnerable women to make jewelry, and she uses her God-given creative abilities to develop many of our beautiful designs.

Once Carrie understood who she was in Christ and allowed Him to heal her past, she became free to use her gifts to minister to women in a way that only she can.

So as you shop for special gifts today, remember our key verse and use those gifts to serve one another.

Just imagine what the world would be like if we began to steward the gifts God has given us to serve each other and bring healing to the broken.

And unlike the gift my friend gave me long ago, let’s not keep our unique gifts from God hidden under a mountain of stuff in the closet of our lives. Let’s use our gifts for His glory NOW!

Dear God, Thank You for the sacrificial gift of Your Son — the BEST gift I can ever receive. Keep me mindful of Jesus during these busy days and don’t let the busyness of life keep me from using the gifts You have given me to serve a world in need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

TRUTH FOR TODAY: Psalm 139:13-14, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well." (ESV)

Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (ESV)

  • Clergy Appreciation Month

    photo

You may not realize this, but your pastor works more than just one day a week. A lot oftimes pastors are taken for granted, because people don’t understand the amount of work it takes to prepare and deliver a sermon, visit with people who are sick, counsel others, and lead a church staff all at the same time. It is not easy to juggle all of these duties, and it can be physically, mentally, and spiritually taxing on them.

Now it is time to show how thankful you are. This month is Clergy Appreciation Month. It is a time to do something above and beyond the norm, in order to give back to your pastor.

Below are eight different ways you can express your gratitude to your pastor. While this list is not all-inclusive, it does provide you with a number of ideas to get you started thinking about how you can celebrate.

    1. Do Something Special During The Service: This could be anything from a testimony shared by a couple people, to a video or slideshow presentation, or even a thank you flash mob.
    2. Do Something Publicly: Connect with your local Christian bookstore or radio station, and have them recognize your pastor through activities or advertising about them. You could also ask local businesses to put up signs, or put up a special message if they have signs already.
    3. Plan A Big Event: You could organize a big banquet, or just a little after church picnic one Sunday. You could also try and plan a fun night out of bowling, or something similar.
    4. Create Special Decorative Pieces: Create a giant banner and have as many people as you can sign it, put together a memorial scrapbook, or gather people in front of the church and take a picture of everyone together.
    5. Renovate: Maybe your pastor’s office is a little dark and plain. Brighten things up with a new paint job and a new picture. You could also buy them a new desk, or other office supplies. Don’t limit your interior design skills to just the office. Their homes may be in need of a makeover as well.
    6. Purchase A Large Gift: You could either use the church budget, or collect special donations, and then purchase one big item for your pastor.
    7. Purchase A Lot Of Small Gifts: Does your pastor love a certain kind of candy? Get a lot of people to bring in a small bag, and you’ll be able to give over a month’s supply.
    8. Often Overlooked, But Most Important: Your pastors are always in need of prayers, love, and support, just as much as anyone else. These are gifts that should not be saved for clergy appreciation month, but given every day.

These are all great gifts that your pastor will surely be grateful for, but you don’t need to wait until next October to give them again. Some of these gifts can be weekly, or even daily, and can really grow your community.

  • Spiritual Gifts

"Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed"... "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them"... "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good." 1 Corinthians 12:1,4,7

One of Satan's schemes is to keep God's children ignorant or confused concerning spiritual gifts. However, His gifts are what empower followers of Jesus to carry out His will. The Great Commission to make disciples of all people, and the Great Commandment to love God and to love people are implemented best by the Spirit's inspired gifts. There are a variety of gifts, but they originate and are distributed by one Holy Spirit. All spiritual gifts come from God.

Like the multi-colors of a rainbow make a compelling commercial for God, so His diverse gifts glorify Him. We are gifted by God for the glory of God. Moreover, we are gifted as a gift to the Body of Christ. Our spiritual gifts are for service, not self. They are for the good of the whole, not just the benefit of one. A gift's manifestation is suspect if the result leaves observers in awe of a person. Spiritual gifts flourish with humble and wise users.

"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us." Romans 12:6

We can admire another person's giftedness, but we reserve our reverence for Christ alone. It's ok to acknowledge how a gifted brother or sister in the Lord has blessed us, but it’s with the Lord that we leave the glory. Yes, enjoy the beauty of a gifted worship leader's worship, but without worshiping the man or woman. Learn from a gifted Bible teacher or writer without idolizing them or their abilities and give your primary praise to the Gift Giver, God Almighty!

Do you acknowledge your skills and abilities as a gift from the Holy Spirit? If so, have you dedicated your spiritual gifts to works of spiritual service? Thank God often for endowing you with the eternal energy and ability to carry out His will. Use your skills for service in the Kingdom of God, do not waste them on worldly pursuits. Also, be content with what Christ has given you, without comparison to others. Your unique giftedness is Christ's canvas of you. A world wakes up to watch your gifts glow for God. Your spiritual gifts are meant for spiritual service.

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4:10

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the gifts of Your Spirit which I use for Your glory!
