She never wanted to marry. He hopes to make amends for past wrongs. Can love find a way to mend both of their hearts?

Sadie Schrock swore she would never marry. All of her other Amish friends could court and marry—she was content to manage the family business and eventually take it over when her parents are ready to retire. But all of that changes when a reckless driver kills both of her parents and seriously injures her younger sister. With mounting hospital bills adding to the pile of debt her parents left behind, Sadie is left with no choice: she must marry. And not just any man—the man who saw her at her weakest and walked away.

Aden knows what his brother did to Sadie years ago was inexcusable. And every day since that incident, Aden has lived with the guilt for not intervening sooner. When he is faced with the chance to protect Sadie once again, he can’t let her down—even if it means living with the scorn of the woman he loves for the rest of his life.

Working alongside Aden at the store, Sadie realizes he isn’t the same boy who once betrayed her. Just when Sadie starts to let her guard down and perhaps develop feelings for her new husband, several dangerous secrets are revealed. Now everything Sadie has worked so hard to protect is threatened, and she must find a way to save her family—and herself.

a great page turning read! by JEANNIE on 10/6/2015

Kathleen Fuller did a great job on this book. It hit many different areas of abuse, loss of family, trust, and a lot to do with keeping secrets. Keeping secrets can cause a lot of hurt, but over time if a person faces things and opens up, they can allow themselves to heal. I enjoyed the Sadie and Aden story line. Their story kept me on the edge of my seat. The main story line of Aden and his brother Sol kept you wanting to keep turning pages to see how it ended. I love how she tied the end together. The 2nd book in this series comes out in March. I can’t wait to read to see how these family continue on their journey; however, you don’t have to read book 2 to complete the main story. The back of the book has discussion questions if you wanted this for a book club. If you love Amish fiction, you will love this book!! It has been a long time since an Amish based book has raised such raw emotion in me. But The Reluctant Bride has done the trick. Bishop Troyer has succeeded in making my blood boil!

This first book in Kathleen Fuller's newest series isn't your average Amish novel. She chooses a more edgy path for her characters and delves into abuse including physical, mental and spiritual. While she allows the dark side of a tight knit community to be revealed this isn't just a novel filled with tragedy, far from it.

It is also a story of healing, hope, and the beginning of a lifelong love. I enjoyed following along while Sadie and Aden navigated the treacherous path set before them. The strength of character that developed in each of them was inspiring and their developing love for each other was moving.

We expect to be able to trust and rely on our spiritual leaders but sometimes those leaders shouldn't be trusted. This book reminds us that we are all fallible and God should be the only One that we ultimately rely on.

If you enjoy a story with depth that will surely evoke strong emotions then I encourage you to pick this novel up. Because of the subject matter I think it would make a particularly good choice for a featured read for your book club. To get the ball rolling there are discussion questions at the back of the book.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

A Reluctant Bride is such a page turner. Bullying happens even in the Amish lifestyle. It is a very sad reality. But it does happen.
Sadie and Aden have overcome so much in their lives. Between the bullying, the mental anguish, the secrets, and other hurtful things from the brethren, it is amazing to me what they are able to do.

It is simply amazing, a gut-wrenching but heart-warming book. I think the author, Kathleen Fuller did an amazing job in writing this story. I look forward to the rest in the series. I received this book in hopes of an honest review. All opinions are my own.

A Reluctant Bride was a book I honestly once I was caught up in it, I had to finish it. This is also the first book by Kathleen Fuller I have read. I will again read more by her to.

Yet it starts off with a sad situation but yet God's redeeming love, and forgiveness is the major center point for the book. It also shows that sin must be confessed by everyone including those who are leaders in a church. Each of the issues are ones that make us realize we also need to get right and are convicting in the book.

I highly recommend this book because it makes us realize we are all the same whether we dress plain or live the Englisch lifestyle. We all have to seek forgiveness from each other, and confess sins to each other. I recommend purchasing the book because of the relevant truths that Kathleen writes.

I encourage you to grab your handkerchief and a warm mug of tea or whatever drink you prefer and to purchase the book.
