- A favorite book! by gatorade635 on 1/20/2014
So I wrote a review for this book awhile ago but I waited to long after reading the book and I really don't like it! It in no way gave my full feelings for this book so after rereading it I'm going to give a second try!
Words cannot fully express my love for this book! Several times I would just stop reading to hug the book and give a happy sigh-yeah I'm a bit ridiculous! This book gives you the full spectrum of emotion. I laughed out loud several times and other times tears made it hard to read. Julie Lessman is one of those amazing authors that can make you happy to be sad and it is a true gift. And knowing what was coming didn't help any in lessening the emotions in fact since I read the prequel I think it was even harder!
Faith is an amazing heroine! Her relationship with God was so close and real; it was truly inspiring! I also was insanely impressed with how she kept God as her priority and refused to be with anyone who didn't love Him as much as she did!
Collin is not that admirable of a hero to begin with but as his love for Faith draws him closer to God he begins to turn into a man you really like. And when he finally gives his heart to God he becomes one of your favorite heroes!
Patrick and Marcy's relationship was made even more special after reading A Light in the Window which is the story of when they fell in love! I love how even after over twenty years their love has not dimmed but instead has grown!
In short I once again loved all the characters with the exception of Charity but knowing how much I ended up loving her in the other books made her much more bearable in this one! I love the O'Conner family dynamic and each of them endeared themselves to my heart. The other characters were pretty awesome as well from Mrs. Gerson to Mitch, and Faith's friends at both The Herald and the Irish Times.
So now that I've rambled for awhile I will end by saying I adored this book and it is truly one of my absolute favorite books!
- WHAT AN EMOTIONAL READER JOURNEY !!!!!!!! by Bonnie Roof on 11/18/2013
I was in tears when I finished reading A Passion Most Pure - albeit, they were tears of joy, & satisfaction, for the ending. However, they weren't the first tears shed during the reading of this wonderful book! Julie Lessman keeps her readers "hanging" until the last few pages of her books; the passion, & unexpected twists leave one breathless, & emotionally, wrought. I became so emotionally invested in the characters of A Passion Most Pure, it was hard to put the book down, & I didn't want it to end.
A Passion Most Pure is the story of Faith O'Connor, & her quest to find the husband God has chosen for her. The journey is, greatly, complicated by the jealousy of her sister, Charity. Faith, & Charity, are daughters of Marcy, & Patrick O'Connor, whose romance is portrayed in A Light in the Window. Each member of the O'Connor family is featured in a separate book - A Passion Most Pure is followed by A Passion Redeemed, A Passion Denied, A Hope Undaunted, A Heart Revealed, & A Love Surrendered.
I am overjoyed at starting the next book in the series - Julie's writing has stolen my heart, "hook, line, & sinker"!
- A Passion Mosst Pure, Indeed! by AngiOakley on 4/23/2013
In the first book of the Daughters of Boston series, Julie Lessman opens the story with a dramatic 'BANG'! And she keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with emotions that rival the ride of a roller coaster. I loved A Passion Most Pure because Julie shows the inner struggles that we as human beings go through at some point in our lives, including those of us who love God and want to please Him. She delights in taking her characters and putting them in situations that make them do some serious thinking, ultimately bringing them before the throne of Grace. And then she throws in a heaping of romance just for good measure.
The book is set in 1916 Boston during WW1. This is the story of Faith O'Conner, the oldest daughter in the O'Conner family. Faith loves God with all of her heart, but she also loves Collin McGuire, the cocky rogue who stood up for her when she was a little girl. The problem is, her father has forbidden her to have anything to do with him. Not to mention, she knows that he is secretly seeing her sister. But when things change, and Collin's interests are suddenly directed her way, will she be able to withstand the longing that she feels in her heart for Collin, or will she decide to follow God's leading? Or can she have both?
You'll have to read it to find out!
- A Truly Good Read!!! by Darla on 3/25/2013
Faith O'Connor is in love with the bad boy Collin McGuire. Collin wants nothing to do with Faith b/c of her faith in God, but he longs to be apart of a loving family again. His solution is Faith's younger and more beautiful sister Charity. But can Collin continue to deny his feelings for Faith? And can Faith put her love for Collin aside to stay true to God?
In this book Mrs. Lessman has captured the truth about what it is like for a young Christian girl (at any age or time period I might add) to draw a line in the sand and stay pure for God and her future husband (in this day and age the line is almost non existent) instead of throwing your morals to the wind and just doing what feels good at the time. No harm done, right? Wrong and Mrs. Lessmen shows that following God's path and not our own leads us to happier marriages and lives. Not that our lives wont be harder by doing so but just much better in the long run. Anything worth having takes a lot of effort. That message needs to be out there, and I believe Mrs. Lessmen has done it with this book.
I would recommend this book to the young and young at heart!! Please read.
- excellent book; keeps you on the edge on your seat by bigtimereader on 11/30/2012
A Passion Most Pure is Julie Lessman's first book. She has written several more since this first one! I found this author from a contest that I saw on Mary Lu Tyndall's (another one of my favorite authors) blog. Julie Lessman writes a series on an Irish family, the O'Conners. Oh, what a family it is! There is some intense sibling rivalry between the two oldest girls, Faith and Charity. They are constantly fighiting over men. The O'Conner family consists of six kids (and counting, not that I peeked ahead into another book or anything ;)), I think, but I may have miscounted. There are so many children yet Julie Lessman does a GREAT job of giving each one their own personality-and all the children certainly have that of their own! All the drama, all the siblings, all the handsome men...and it's all Irish. One contest has never gotten me so excited about an author I hadn't discovered yet!
Anyway, A Passion Most Pure is the story of how Faith falls in love-each book in the series is about one of the children. She met a man named Collin, and she knew from the minute she first saw him that she loved him. The problem is, he's pretty much the town tramp, and Faith is a strong Christian. Faith has to channel her self-control in storehouses (not literally) for him- 'cause he's a hottie. :) To make things more complicated, Charity, who is about four years younger than Faith, is courting him behind her parent's backs. And Faith knows it. She even catches them kissing many-a-time! To add to that, this story is set around WW1, and Collin decides to leave for war after he gets engaged to Charity. The O'Conner clan moves to Ireland, where Faith gets a new job and falls in love with her supervisor-who is almost twice her age! This causes more disagreements between the family, and when Faith catches her supervisor Mitch cheating on her-with Charity-she loses it and travels back to Boston. Where she runs in with Collin a few weeks later as he is coming home from the war.
Let me just say, Julie Lessman's theme with her writing is "Passion with a Purpose", and she shows it well. Not only is there plenty of romantic passion, there are spiritual lessons that lead the characters (and sometimes the reader!) to more passionate relationships with Jesus Christ our Savior. This is a book that I throughly enjoyed, and I can't believe it was the author's first. I am so glad that I discovered her writing after she has already written two or three series, because I am going to go through these books like water! Even better, Julie Lessman's website offers several contests that promote and give away her books!

- Passionate Love by JacyRose on 1/4/2012
This was an AWESOME book! If you like romantic reading this is the book for you! I totally love Faith and Collin! I want to be a writer just like her and her love of God inspires me! Also, I could see myself falling for a handsome guy like Collin if he had rescued me from a bully.
- Phenomenal story! by EMarie on 12/16/2011
A Passion Most Pure was phenomenal! Julie Lessman wrote an incredible novel when she sat down and started writing A Passion Most Pure. What I think I love most about both Faith and Collin is when they believe in something they believe it with their whole hearts. Faith loves Collin with her whole heart, but she knows that she can't change him, only God can. And that was the most beautiful part of this book. Collin's journey to discovering the truth of God's love, forgiveness and mercy was heartwarming and beautiful. This is a definite must-read!
- Amazing Debut Novel!!! by CelticGirl on 12/6/2011
Julie Lessman is an AMAZING author! I can't believe that this is her debut novel! Let me tell you, it is a book that you will not want to put down - so make sure that you start it when you have enough time to finish it in one sitting!
Faith O'Connor is a woman who has a strong faith in the Lord. A faith that was forged by the many trials she had to face as a young child, such as her twin sister dying from Polio. Faith was stricken with the same disease and was near death, but she survived and the only thing that remains is her slight limp.
Colin McGuire is the man that Faith has had a crush on since she was young, but no one knew - least of all Colin. So when Colin began dating Faith's younger sister Charity, sparks flew - in more ways than one!
With sister set against sister and WWI fast approaching, will this family survive?
I fell in love with these characters almost immediately and, by the time I reached the end, I wanted to pick up the next book right away - unfortunately for me, I had to wait almost a year to do it! The twists and turns in this novel are fantastic! I highly recommend that you read 'A Passion Most Pure' and make sure that you have 'A Passion Redeemed' ready to pick up as soon as you finish it!
